Somehow I've actually never read Carrie, or seen any of the adaptations, so the new Flanagan effort will be my first exposure to the story!

The Blood of Dawnwalker fixes basically all the problems I had with The Witcher 3. Loot that actually matters, better combat, no random time-wasting sections that should have been cutscenes, more focused main narrative. The whole thing feels very intentional

I truly hate political discourse being reduced to a left/right binary. Not just because it kills nuance, but because it forces people to think of ideology in terms of degree rather than kind. I think this is part of how we've ended up with hyper-conservative puritanism infiltrating leftist spaces

Markup is often between 50–80% depending on product category, so when you factor in other running costs a 30% discount across all items could work out at close to cost overall.

I 100% believe that modern attitudes towards sex are some of the most regressive and insane cultural norms the human race has ever created. Hopefully future generations will look back in bemused disgust at how socially primitive we were.

Thanks! The niche I'm writing in probably wants an extra 10–15k words, but they'll turn up. I have a tendency to draft low and build up through revisions. Far too early for extra eyes at this stage, but thanks for the offer!

I had a magic system where people could mould water with their hands into a hard substance and they used it for everything, making tools and jewellery, etc. and an editor told me I'd copied the magic from the Wheel of Time??

I agree. Biggest difference for me, moving from one to the other, was of style. The kind of dense, impressionistic prose I favour in shorts is exhausting over 100,000 words

Yep. I got it in my head that I shouldn't/couldn't pursue novels until I'd published a pro-rate short, and I do wonder if spending all those years on that goal ultimately set me back when I could have been querying novels before publishing got even harder to break into

Friend of mine and fab author EJ Doble's just released the third instalment of his grimdark epic The Blood and Steel Saga, so check it out if you're looking to pick up a 🔥gritty🔥 fantasy series! www.amazon.com/dp/B0B15B9937
Banner image declaring "out now" and showing the cover of The Tusks of Wrath, Book 3 of The Blood and Steel Saga by EJ Doble. Cover illustration is very dark and shows a tusked bear in a forest with embers floating around it and saliva dripping from its mouth. One of the bear's eyes glows pink and it is adorned with several gold jewels: rings on the tusks, its ear, etc. The atmosphere is grim and imposing.

Stanhill, Lancashire, 1764. Weaver and Carpenter James Hargreaves invents the Spinning Jenny, the first practical spinning-frame, to make the tedious task of producing cloth a little bit faster. He doesn't know it yet, but this will destroy the world.

Spurred by inventions like his, the industrial revolution will transform everything -- work power, the wealth of nations. Society as we know it began here, and it wasn't great for everyone. But a group of weavers and textile workers saw this future coming. And did their best to prevent it.

Current project is going in a very different direction (some convergence of romantasy/paranormal romance/horror/dark academia) and I'm wondering if it might be best practice to splinter into a pen name. I want to switch up my whole publishing process so could be a good opportunity for a full rethink

The only 'juggling' I can manage is writing shorter works in these gaps. If it's something I can start and finish before it's time to get to edits, then I can make it work. If I try and write more than one novel at once my head explodes and I lie on the floor with an exploded head

Books aimed at fans of Jack Ryan and Reacher more so than readers devoted to the prexisting fantasy scene. In the same way that romantasy like Fourth Wing broke out of the usual fantasy niche to target the mainstream readers of women's fiction. 2/2

I know 'mantasy' sounds silly, but I do think authors like Weir and Dinniman are writing very 'dad-focused' SFF. Books for the everyman who likes cars and football, rather than the subcultural nerd niche types who are the usual audience for genre fiction. 1/2

My usual research methods have failed me so PLEASE HELP... I need to know what happened to carriages at noble balls. I'm looking at late medieval up to regency era. Did they hang around for the duration or did they drop off the guests and return for them at the time the ball was scheduled to end?
