Decided to do a shake out scuba dive last night to try out a bit of new gear. I brought my camera, and grabbed some of my favorite nudibranch photos ever! (Also shrimp and fish are good)
An orange and white tipped nudibranch, Antiopella fusca, photograph against very dark kelp. It looks like a floating blob of translucent bulbs. White lined dirona nudi, Dirona albolineata, looking majestic against a dark background. Shriiiiimp. A Pandalus danae/ dock shrimp looking like it’s posing for the cameraA gunnel looking cool. Maybe a crescent gunnel/ Pholis laeta. They are not eels, just long fish. This sorta thing matters.

I have been writing this post about the economics of open source, on and off, for 13 years. I wasn't expecting to end up at "Microsoft should send corporations a huge bill" but nothing else we've tried has worked. seldo.com/posts/nobody-pays-for-ope…

Nobody pays for open source. We can force them to. | Seldo.com
Thirty years of voluntary funding schemes haven't paid open source maintainers because asking doesn't scale. The real money already flows — to JFrog, Docker, Sonatype — at the registry layer. The fix: registries charge companies for supply (they already do), then route a slice automatically to the maintainers who make that supply worth having.

This weekend was the second to last rallycross event of the season, and the only night races too. It’s hard to describe how incredible fun it is. Fell asleep think about how we drove, and how I can drive better today. I have a solid chance at the podium - assuming I keep pushing + don’t screw up

Take a break from being depressed that everything you love is being destroyed by slop for a moment and let me tell you about the beautiful symbiotic relationship between graffiti writers, train yard workers, and model train enthusiasts.

Plan for the day: cut holes in the bumper of our fiesta, weld pipes together, weld scrap metal to the car, and end up with a light bar. I’m amazed that it’s an option to just DO things like this!

It takes a lot more work sourcing my own wood, but it brings me such joy. This is the fir that came down in the last windstorm. The catalpa from down our street. The off cuts from the spoon carving class. The spruce from the nice guy at the musical instrument place.

One last Ozette post: one of our favorite pieces of art in our house is this metaphorical portrait of Ozette by the amazing @pamwishbow.bsky.social. Pam took our brief, and gleefully returned with this perfect painting of a demon queen, just and vengeful ruler of all she can see.
A demon queen with dagger and crocodile, with border of shredded forearms.

We’re saying goodbye to our sweet cat Ozette today, after nearly two decades. She’s the sweetest, softest, meanest beast ever, and definitely appears in my sculptures.
A round, slightly wall eyed cat being held by a dude in a green flannel. Ozette looking a bit regal, bit menacing.

If you’re in Seattle, my solo show will be opening this Thursday night from 5-8pm! Come say hi at the J Rinehart Gallery in pioneer square.
A view of a two part sculpture out of wood fired ceramic. It’s two beasts tucked against each other but facing out. The colors are earth tones, with white porcelain horns. It’s about 2ft long.

Presenting the final sculpture!! It’s hilarious to be able to look back to my first sketch and track the progress of this beast. My instinct is was right. A pain to sculpt, but worth it! It’s titled “Storyteller”, and will be part of my solo show at J. Rinehart Gallery, opening April 2nd.
A formal photo of a ceramic sculpture. The piece is 20” wide, and features a long suffering large beast being swarmed by four rambunctious small beasts. It’s squishing one to gain some chil. Different view of the same piece. Two small beasts are climbing over the leg of the large one, yelling at each other. A close up on the coloration of one of the smaller beasts. All the coloration on both is due to the ash from the woodfiring melting into a natural glaze. Close up on the noisy two

I’m so excited with my work from this last wood firing! This sculpture, “Squish”, is going to be part of my solo show opening on April 2nd at J. Rinehart Gallery in Seattle.
Three ceramic beasts, all leaning against each other. They’re about 12” long. They’re very emotive, but have no facial features other than eyes. Rear view of the same sculpture. Three butts, with three little tails. Their feet are widely spaced, giving more visual weight to the lean of the outside beasts against the inside. Front view of the sculptures. The three beasts snuggle together. Like if cats were friendly sausages.

After reloading and restarting the wood firing, it went super smooth. We wrapped it up in 48 hours, with cone 11’s everywhere in kiln. I woke up for my shift on Tuesday to find an unexpected 3” of snow on everything!

Apple's whole deal is to get me to buy as many of their devices as possible. Yet they still don't have a good way to remote control Apple Music across all of them the way Spotify/Tidal do. Is this an internal politics problem amongst Apple teams?

I finally had enough down time to photograph “ghost forest”, my big sculpture from my October firing. The results were just spectacular!
A large roundish clay beast, about 18” long, shot against a grey backdrop. There’s tree stumps on the back. Front view of the same beast. It has a smooth head, with no features other than a downturned mouth with porcelain teeth. Back side of the beast. It’s red/brown/black. All the color is from melted wood ash from the firing. There’s many subtle shades and textures.
