#RPGaDAY2026 Day 1: Discipline
Almost missed the kickoff for this years #RPGaDAy2026. Typical. I had quite a blast with it last year, and it helped me kickstart this blog (which has since fallen back to slumber, because it's me doing it). So, let's see if I can bring this thing back from the abyss to post about *something* daily. This year's theme is suggested to be about "Characters" influenced by the daily prompt and all that.

Had our first real session of @hellomcdm.bsky.social’s Draw Steel Codex. Besides some sync issues (because too many new players enjoying the codex) it was a blast. The stuff this thing handles is already fantastic. Good job @dmhubvtt.bsky.social on this amazing product.

I did something similar a (long) while back for something something fantasy. I was inspired, of all things, buy Tiny Tina's Wonderlands class system.

Yeah, it helps with a lot of the book keeping while also looking stylish and being made specifically for the game. We’ve been playing on roll20 using a sheet I coded together and it worked well enough. But we’re all excited to switch over this week.

Ran our first London Night phase in The Between and it was truly amazing. A ghost got banished, and a family of cannibal pie makers nearly killed two hunters after a deadly game of cat and mouse. @jasoncordova.bsky.social and @gauntletrpg.bsky.social make great games. 10/10 no notes.

Been messing around with the Draw Steel on Steam playtest for a while now, and it's honestly impressive. It automates almost everything, yet allows you to override and manually adjust as required. It's also easy* to code your own effects and content using its inhouse script UI/language. Good stuff.

...but truly believing that he's not just in for himself, but that a rising tide lifts all boats. That, together, they are unstoppable. The card totally changed the character. And as it kept coming up just as the Fiasco got worse and worse, his eagerness to be a friend was met with betrayal and...

The cards just force you out of your comfort zone, let you think about your characters in ways you'd never even consider due to genre or plot biases you might have. Draw a "Zombies" card in a realistic heist story, and then what? The card would make you think about an unstoppable force...

I have adopted a philosophy of preparing less for the games I run, relying on random prompts and more and more over the years. Mythic GME by @tanapigeonwmg.bsky.social is one of the best tools out there for that. I think that's the reasons I enjoy this project to so much, as well.

All three stories use the "Roadkill" playset for Fiasco, which can be found among many others at fiascoplaysets.com Of all playsets I have looked at/used, Roadkill just hits the right spots for me and the kind of stories I want to tell using Fiasco.

There's a third one in the pipe right now, with the larger goal of creating a sort of anthology of selfish humanity as a larger collection of these stories. Three stories of greed and trauma, three distinct casts of three characters trying to make it big, or at least make it out alive.

Stefan Woick @behindthewallgames.com · 22/03/2026
I've finished this sort of project twice now, each time resulting in a short novella. Both stories went places and explored themes I wouldn't have thought of, all because of the prompts of the cards, and the restriction and direction of Fiasco.

Fiasco by @bullypulpithq.bsky.social is such a great game, and it works extremely well as the foundation and engine for fast-paced, personal stories, which put intensely selfish humanity front and center. Great TTRPG, 10/10, highly recommend.
