Another classic, not sure if I've already posted this one here.

Several weeks ago, Phil Tippett's legendary animation studio in Berkeley, CA closed. An anonymous hero noticed a folder of CDs. This turned out to be hundreds of unseen hi-res images and videos from Star Wars, Robocop, Jurassic Park, etc. ~90 isos for you to browse: archive.org/details/tipp...

This is a part of the game's second level that exists only for you to go watch the birds and enjoy some serenity. It has its own location and scrolls the rest of the level off screen so you're not interrupted, it's very intentional. It's absolutely wild to see something like this on the NES.

They disinvented the VCR. You might think that the reason we don't have VCRs anymore is because VCRs were supplanted by DVDs, PVRs and streaming, but that's not the case. They had it in for the VCR from the very start, and they never stopped trying to kill it. Eventually, they succeeded. 1/

A 1960s family living room in which a mom, dad and two kids are mesmerized by a cabinet-style TV. The image has been altered. The TV has an early 1990s VCR atop it. There's nothing wrong with playing the critically acclaimed 10/10s. They tend to be loved for a reason! But many of them are rated so highly in part because they appeal to everyone. The 5s, 6s, and 7s? That's where you'll find many of the games that feel like they were made for you specifically.

Unpopular opinion, but I ABSOLUTELY LOVE the the nub mouse pointer. I wish I could get them in my desktop keyboards! Being able to make mouse movements/clicks by barely moving my hands off of home row is amazing for speed. Poor precision, but great for a quick click between typing

Never tried Giga Wing, just did. I like the reflection, you HOLD the fire button to reflect, so there's small delay between when you decide to use it and becoming invulnerable. Thankfully most of the enemy bullets are relatively slow, so there's a bit of planning in deciding when to use it. Neat!
