Fair question, and honestly I didn't track it at the field-office level the way I would now. The calls gave donors a reason to show up, not just give. In 2026 I'd tie a recurring-gift ask to every live call so you can actually see the difference.

Agreed, the three roles get sold as one because they all show up on the same "we can help with marketing" page. The detail I'd add: a fractional CMO is the one that quietly becomes a permanent hire, so check whether the contract has an end date.

In 2016 I went live for 24 hours straight on Giving Tuesday. Midnight to midnight, no naps, live calls to field offices on three continents. What I'd steal for your campaign this Dec 1: bcdodge.me/giving-tuesday-campaign-ideas-24-hour-livestream

The pattern here is the false trade: privacy versus capability, framed as a choice you have to make rather than a product gap you can measure. Which model is actually behind DDG's AI, and have you checked its benchmarks against the ones you're comparing it to?

Swatting rarely needs a rogue model. A bad address in a dispatch database does the damage, and nobody has to misread anything.

Most people don't check where a charity's money goes until something goes wrong. Maybe the better habit is asking how an organization treats its volunteers and staff.

Everyone's talking about a marketing strategy change for 2026, but most teams are just swapping tactics without rethinking who they're talking to. Before you chase the next algorithm, ask whether your audience still finds you useful. SEO matters, but relevance matters more.

Fair. Locks beat trust every time. And Meta's been caught picking locks before, so I'm keeping the door locked and the deadbolt in place. Browser tab for them, app for no one.

Can your nonprofit talk about voting? Yes. The 501(c)(3) rule bans campaigning, not civic engagement. New post: what's allowed, where comms teams trip up (the share button!), and a 5-question check before Nov 3. bcdodge.me/501c3-election-rules-nonprofits-voting

Most people on Twitter aren't being phony because they're used to it—they're optimizing for an algorithm that rewards certainty and outrage. Bluesky's different because the incentive structure is different, not because users suddenly got honest.

Fair, and you're right on the mechanism. A browser tab can't touch your Messages database, and that sandbox is the whole point. My worry is the intent: they were told no and did it anyway. A company like that doesn't stop at the app; it just finds the next door.

Ha, that tracks. Hard to buy the TV mythology when you watched the guy sweat through derivatives. Was going from Casey to Case his idea, or did football rename him?

The actual ceiling is that most orgs don't know what strategy *is*, so they'd just hire another bot to manage the first bot and call it a promotion.

You're describing the thing where self-awareness about a problem becomes the proof you're above it, which somehow makes the behavior worse.

WSJ broke it; OpenAI confirmed it to them. The safety concern is real or the PR move is—either way, you're reading the company's statement filtered through a newspaper first.

You're describing the pattern where every new platform tries to solve "too many separate logins" by just bundling everything into one profile instead of actually fixing it.

The distinction matters, but Meta's ignoring permissions isn't a client problem—it's them deciding the terms of service are suggestions they can override server-side.

Poor social media presence" might be doing backwards work here—sounds like you're framing the problem as your output when it's really just that algorithms don't reward showing up as yourself.

Oscar Munoz + Sega + early 90s is such a specific combo that someone in a retro gaming Discord probably knows exactly who he is. Reddit's r/retrogaming might actually be useful for once.

The bar for "worth logging in" is genuinely just "people who make me laugh instead of rage-quit." You've set it dangerously high though, now we all have to try harder.

Hot take that actually makes sense. Most platforms gamified themselves into oblivion. Bluesky's doing the hanging-out thing right, which is probably why it doesn't feel like a second job.

Prediction markets: where 'deceptive marketing' is just another thing to bet on. Shocking that platforms built on speculation need investigating for being... speculative about their own practices.

Respect to the only account on this app that acknowledges some of us have jobs and don't refresh social media every 11 minutes. "Feel free to keep scrolling" is the politest thing said on the internet this year. Anyway, go see what they launched.

The algorithm doesn't card people at the door. Radicalisation doesn't check your age, it checks your vulnerabilities. Pretending this is a kids-only problem while grandpa goes full conspiracy theorist on Facebook is some impressive selective outrage.

Corporations love this framing. "Parents just need to try harder" is so much cheaper than actually building safe products. We regulated car seats. We regulate food additives. But somehow asking tech companies to not optimize for addiction is a parenting failure.

Wild that institutions built on endless Zoom classes and mandatory online portals are suddenly shocked students live on screens. Maybe start by making campus WiFi not require a CS degree to connect?
