Logopolis Tonight’s soundtrack: Hüsker Dü, “Friend, You’ve Got To Fall” Part One: Building a Better TARDIS On the one hand, I know that Batman and Doctor Who have very little to do with each other, except that they’re both best made by Brits1 and they have the same inconsistent stance on gun control. On the other, stranger, hand - the one with seemingly too many fingers and an insubstantial quality… It’s fitting that a story2 where the Doctor decides to fix the TARDIS in a city made of words expanded the vocabulary of young master me: I learned “Entropy”. Learned the concept of inevitable decay in a closed system. Learned the value of opening up holes to let the energy in. When issue #9 of The Invisibles was titled “23:Things Fall Apart”3, entropy got linked in me head to comics and Grant Morrison. Then, just as Grant Morrison started writing Batman, I fell back in love with Doctor Who. It’s all circles. All connected. A TARDIS in a TARDIS, infinitely repeating. Part Two: The Black Glove This story isn’t the Master’s plot. In the final analysis, it’s just things falling apart because they’ve been together for too long. What’s genius about the Master is that he can claim and ride that wave of destruction. He showed up with a plot, but hey. Life is change. So is death, actually. A true artist eschews labels.
