I mean, all the audience look pretty ancient themselves. They may laugh now...

Do they even talk to voters any more? I know she thinks online is everything, but surely someone must tell her that most traditional Tory voters aren’t actually racists (or certainly not to the degree she’s pushed the party)

I’m assuming this is AI, right? All the kemi supporters share the same face

Well you’re using the brakes a lot less due to driving too regenerate. I would assume this also puts less strain on the tires - though an ev driving pal told me the opposite wrt the tires

We played a track from abbey Road yesterday at a thing, but only had one speaker; the stereo output gave us just one channel. They really overdid the (un)balance back then! It was rather ringo-heavy

If you’re doing it multiple times a day, sounds like a pretty healthy marriage to me

My dad’s funeral today, and I realise I’m fearing it not because funerals are awful (I think they can be wonderful things), but because it’s finally final. Until today, he’s just not been here. After, he’ll be gone.

Everything a fucking subscription model, based on the whims and stability of businesses designed to have short term goals with eyes on big money buyouts, not the products they sell

Like, I had SO many friends working in startups in the 00s and 10s, probably every other person I know in web stuff was at it. Not one company made it big, as far as I remember. What does this do to people? To consistently fail, and yet still have cash thrown at you?

Tech start-ups and London property - both madly overvalued and built on shifting sand. Or shifting clay.

And also! We didn’t always live in a world where ten billion things were vying for your attention every second. A lot fucking easier to have mastery over yourself when, I dunno, people could only write to you or shout across the field or whatever

jeebers. and there i was about to put all my money in
010
Bash @bashthebox.bsky.social · 27/09/2026
Well that’s what I mean - you’d be very hard pressed to find a buyer who would both have the funds to save it, and would have the desire to respect the listing. Too big for a private house but not grand enough for a billionaire, too awkward for commercial use

The elements worth saving would be SO expensive there, and unless they're making a hotel no developer would be interested in putting their money in those bits. As you say, it's a huge shame, but once it's got to that state with something so large, it's really hard to save

Oh I always assumed strawberries were so called because growers would spread straw underneath to keep the slugs and woodlice off the fruit...

Bash @bashthebox.bsky.social · 26/09/2026
Oh that's fascinating. But for a very character driven piece, I guess it makes sense - you don't really understand everything about them until you've got the rushes and are piecing the story together in the edit

(I recently rewatched some of Farscape. Holds up!)

Gotcha. And was Better Call Saul done in the same way, or did they have all those series contracted from the off? I think BCS is a much more interesting thing, I was far more into the characters

Bash @bashthebox.bsky.social · 26/09/2026
oh no way? that's impressive, but also maybe explains those - i hesitate to call them filler episodes - but the ones that could just be standalone short films

McGregor is really good in the series you mentioned - I think all of them are cast and written so well, the characters are just fantastic

I really liked the most recent one - especially the epilogue with the Nice vs Nasty verbal shootout.

Bash @bashthebox.bsky.social · 26/09/2026
I mean that's a fair point. It also seemed to have its narrative arc set out before embarking on endless series, i.e. it had 5 series of story and then it would be over, which wasn't always the norm at the time. or was it, i can't remember the timings

Agree. Never spent a moment thinking I should rewatch it. Think about rewatching the wire at least once a week.

Deus Ex was SO far ahead of its time, it was just incredible. I could see if I can find a way of playing it again, but it I think maybe it's best to leave it in that pristine place in my memory.

I found a tenner back in the spring, so obviously I spent it all on scratchcards. I won! Two pounds. So I bought a Euromillions ticket (with an extra 70 pee). I won! Two more pounds. So I bought an ice cream. Much fun, highly recommend wasting found money

This appeals to me on a very nominative level

(i mean, as it happens, they were bang on the money, I'm privately educated and I do look down my nose at pricks who think comedy began and ended with an old bastard who hasn't been funny for 40 years, I just happen to work with my hands, but they weren't to know that)

It's really weird, especially when 80-90% of people are just knowledge economy workers, or in that case, almost certainly retired office workers. Making furniture - elitist. Being a sales manager in Slough - salt of the earth?

Bash @bashthebox.bsky.social · 22/09/2026
The only time I was victim to a pile on on the old place was when I got up the nose of John Cleese. I had endless boomers belittling me for being a bespoke furniture maker as per my bio there. If I'd described myself as a cabinet maker or a joiner, would it have been the same line of attack?

My dad used to subscribe to the spectator. I glanced at a few more recent issues the other day, and most of the editorials seemed to be of the same theme, i.e. "I was always right all along, here I am in my magazine saying it so it must be so". He's a really fucking weird guy.

That's a really good read, thank you. Interesting that your two 'business as usual' types were also gardeners - i find most gardeners are so much more aware of climate change. Even in the last ten years what we can and can't grow has altered dramatically!
