Barton Chittenden @bartonski.bsky.social · 10/10/2026Canada puts all its anger in its geese. I believe their geese have reached capacity. It's not gonna be pretty. 000
Barton Chittenden @bartonski.bsky.social · 06/10/2026Hard agree. There was a cool symbiosis between websites and usenet (I miss usenet, although I suspect that I'm viewing it through significantly rose colored lenses). 020
Barton Chittenden @bartonski.bsky.social · 05/10/2026To quote a thought bubble from Cerebus (sic) the Aardvark: "Sophia. Sophia Sophia Sophia. Bouncy bouncy bouncy. Squirt." 000
Barton Chittenden @bartonski.bsky.social · 05/10/2026Depends how I count it: The first was Watership Down, which had **waaaaay** too many rabbits with blood around their mouths for my comfort. For real terror, I had to wait for Silkwood, when I was 12. Something about having radiation detectors going off freaked me tf out 020
Barton Chittenden @bartonski.bsky.social · 05/10/2026Sadly, this whole thing is about defending that gravy train. 010
Barton Chittenden @bartonski.bsky.social · 04/10/2026OT, but bear with me: any online mention of cribbage is an automatic invitation to play, should you ever be in Louisville. 010
Barton Chittenden @bartonski.bsky.social · 04/10/2026I want to love DIY, but somehow all of my projects end up like this. 010
Barton Chittenden @bartonski.bsky.social · 03/10/2026I feel like there should be a spider around there somewhere with a web that reads SOME TREE. 010
Barton Chittenden @bartonski.bsky.social · 29/09/2026It's better sculpted than a real Gummibär. I think it's a win. 022
Barton Chittenden @bartonski.bsky.social · 26/09/2026No, the ice is made with coffee, so it doesn't dilute the drink... at least that's the way I make it. Just an extra couple of steps. 020
Barton Chittenden @bartonski.bsky.social · 26/09/2026Both of them? I hate to tell Pete, but if that's the case, the fertility window is the least of their problems. 010
Barton Chittenden @bartonski.bsky.social · 21/09/2026As someone whose spelling sucks (not socks, dammit), I find it a mixed blessing. 120
Barton Chittenden @bartonski.bsky.social · 21/09/2026I have never been so glad to reread a post and find the 'a' that I had missed on the first reading. 000
Barton Chittenden @bartonski.bsky.social · 21/09/2026Has he stopped faffing around in the gulf? (Autocorrect tried to change faffing to failing, which is about as helpful as autocorrect has ever been) 110
Barton Chittenden @bartonski.bsky.social · 20/09/2026Doesn't a triumphal arch require a triumph? Except for Hegseth, who thinks we're triumphant? 081
Barton Chittenden @bartonski.bsky.social · 19/09/2026Mirabel's accordion sounds like it should be on display next to Chechov's gun. Not sure if it would be played before or after the gunshot in scene 3. 000
Barton Chittenden @bartonski.bsky.social · 19/09/2026All work and no play makes Natalie a dull girl. All work and No play makes natalie a dull girl. All work and no Play makes Natalie a Dull girl 000
Barton Chittenden @bartonski.bsky.social · 19/09/2026I assure you, Trump's tool is worse than useless. 000
Barton Chittenden @bartonski.bsky.social · 19/09/2026He expects there will be fewer signatures in the next congress???? That's right up there with Tarkin's "Evacuate? In our moment of triumph?" 000
Barton Chittenden @bartonski.bsky.social · 19/09/2026Reminds me of a fortune teller in my town who had a crystal ball in the window display in the front of her store... until it focused the sunlight onto the cloth that it was sitting on, started a fire, and burned down the building. I guess she didn't see that one coming... 000
Barton Chittenden @bartonski.bsky.social · 19/09/2026Oh! The pope has my contact juggling ball! I was wondering where that went! 000
Barton Chittenden @bartonski.bsky.social · 19/09/2026Good lord, I just realized what was in the trunk of the car in Repo Man! 020
Barton Chittenden @bartonski.bsky.social · 19/09/2026The problem is that he started saying it when he was accused of it in the 2016 campaign. His accusers were right, of course, but he played the classic 2nd grade defense: "I'm rubber and you're glue. It bounces off me and sticks to you!" 001
Barton Chittenden @bartonski.bsky.social · 19/09/2026How 'bout we lay off a dozen of the Kennedy Center board instead? 000
Barton Chittenden @bartonski.bsky.social · 16/09/2026IIRC, there's an argument in set theory that starts something like that... 010
Barton Chittenden @bartonski.bsky.social · 16/09/2026My main problem with video is that it's impossible to skim, let alone grep. You can do the 'skip ahead by 5 seconds', but it takes another second or two to get context and decide if you want to skip again. There's no flow. Skimming, the context is built in -- you're constantly deciding what to skip. 010
Barton Chittenden @bartonski.bsky.social · 16/09/2026The other place where I like video instruction is in areas where the thing being documented is inherently visual, or at least kinesthetic -- laptop disassembly, or juggling (one of my hobbies). In the former, seeing all the screws removed and the amount of force to remove the cover is worth the time 110
Barton Chittenden @bartonski.bsky.social · 16/09/2026I like videos for a 10,000 foot view of something I want to learn. If I can spend 15 minutes and get the drift of topic X, that's time well spent, assuming that the video is clear and accurate. Anything more detailed, and I want text, preferably flat text or markdown. Word or PDF is OK, I guess. 110
Barton Chittenden @bartonski.bsky.social · 15/09/2026The hugging face stuff is scary. I'm not an AI apologist, I'm not part of their marketing department, and I don't believe that we've reached AGI -- but I do think that AI will be able to find and exploit vulnerabilities quietly, at scale and in a coordinated fashion. 010
