I wrote about my J.D. Salinger phase and also a little about my John Buchan phase and also very briefly about how all the Puffin books of my childhood were confident that what a child needed after some nice E. Nesbit was H. Rider Haggard’s She

Written from a place of love. defector.com/eagles-fans-...
You are a Philadelphia Eagles fan. You suddenly have a constant craving for large sandwiches. Your head is now filled with detailed biographical knowledge of several local meteorologists. Every proper noun in this story is familiar. "Pond Lehocky" means something to you. The shouted phrase "FORMAN MILLS" plays randomly in your head at all hours. You are drunk. Drunker than normal, because it is game day. You have probably been tailgating, which is so important to you that you have reinvented collective bargaining from first principles in order to protect your right to drink next to the stadium as opposed to one lot farther out.

My pervert bet of the week: that a kick would hit the uprights. Shockingly fun to root for in a crowded Atlantic City sportsbook. (I am of the opinion that gambling is OK if it is inconvenient and grimy.)

Minor qualm but it’s annoying how you can’t find blackjack anymore without a million different side bets. Takes forever to play a hand because everyone else at the table has like three things to settle before you even get to the blackjack part.
