R01 grants are not contracts! do not make that comparison. U01 are closer to contracts but NIH has contracts with research institutions or biotech companies that go through a different review process and negotiation.

This update means that virtually all NIH study sections and councils, necessary to review and award grants, will not be scheduled until mid-April AT EARLIEST. The end of the fiscal year is September 30, and all appropriated monies must be spent by then. Meanwhile, the backlog continues to grow.

Very true! Its depressing to see the destruction of the NIH from within (both intramural research and extramural review and funding) but more depressing yet is to realize that our univ and medical centers admn dont really understand how funding occurs. No review, no grants, no indirects!!

Study sections are still being cancelled and not rescheduled. without study sections, the admn can achieve its goal of freezing funding without anybody noticing...

The only NIH or NSF Notice to be submitted to the federal register today was a cancelation of an NSF Advisory Panel. Federal Granting Agencies are still being kneecapped by the administration

ISD was postponed as well... we are dying here... and nobody cares... maybe the universities and medical centers should forget about the indirect costs because if there are no grants there are no indirect costs...

thinking the same about the two days free of meetings due to postponement of study section...

search by meetings and the last one was on Jan 21st for some neurological study section. However NSF has been allowed to post review panels... not sure why the block only applies to NIH
