Barnet Green Party and Jewish Greens are shocked and upset that an event selling settlement property in the West Bank took place in a synagogue in Barnet.
Selling land in these settlements is illegal and contributes to the ethnic cleansing and dispossession of Palestinians and it is deeply shameful that such an event has taken place in our communities.

We believe that our communities should be safe spaces for all, and uphold the principles of justice and inclusion that are so important to the local community in Barnet and to Jewish communities in the UK.
We support our London Assembly members who have called for any profiteering from illegal land sales to be prosecuted to the full extent of the law, and we support such claims.
We affirm the principle that human rights and justice must apply equally to all.

There is now clear evidence that the Great Israeli Real Estate event had unlawful activity at it. I've written to the Mayor of London to ask what he intends to do about it. This needs to be escalated immediately.

During Mayor's Question Time last week I asked you to put pressure on the government to ban the “unlawful” ‘Great Israeli Real Estate.’

You clarified that you had discussed the event with the Metropolitan Police Service and stated that any allegations of criminality relating to the potentially unlawful sale of property at the event would be assessed by the Met as part of an investigation.

It has since come to light that materials handed out at the ‘Great Israeli Real Estate’ event included properties in Ma'Ale Adumin and Givat Zeev in the West Bank and
Ramat Eshkol and Givat HaMatos in East Jerusalem.

These settlements are illegal under international law. This event should never have been allowed to happen in our city. There was substantial evidence ahead of the event that organisers were advertising properties in illegal settlements. More than 100 organisations, including human rights groups, as well as over 100 MPs called for the ‘Great Israeli Real Estate’ event to be cancelled.

The UK Government has repeatedly affirmed that Israeli settlements are illegal under international law.

With horrific settler violence against Palestinians on the rise, it’s more important than ever that those involved in hosting this deplorable event in our city are not allowed to act with impunity.

The Proceeds of Crime Act makes it illegal for promoters and estate agents operating in the UK to facilitate the sale of land acquired through illegal conduct.

Yvette Cooper has confirmed that the Advertising Standards Authority will investigate Sunday's event but that response is completely inadequate. This needs to be escalated to the Metropolitan Police Service immediately, anything less fails to reflect the
seriousness of the situation.

In response to today's terror attack in Golders Green.

Words are not enough.

Our thoughts are with the victims of today's attack in Golders Green, as well as their families and the Barnet Jewish community.

However, thoughts and words alone are not enough. This is our home, our neighbours, our community. We will not let the brutal attacks in Golders Green today, and the recent campaign of antisemitic hate in Barnet, pass without action. There is no place for antisemitism in Barnet. There is no place for violence.

We will continue to work with the Barnet Jewish community and Jewish Greens, both those within and outside of our party, and seek guidance on how to actively support them in the coming days and weeks.

We thank Shomrim for apprehending the perpetrator. Also the MET Police, Community Security Trust and Hatzola for their rapid and comprehensive response.

We have ceased all local canvassing activities with immediate effect out of respect to the victims of these viscous attacks.
