In my view the subtext from her here is "we should/do *encourage* it", but "we shouldn't necessarily *build* it." An optimistic reading of that would be "politician leaves room for nuance and case-specific circumstances." My pessimistic view is "candidate talks out of both sides of her mouth."

Sort of insane fact about how broken US urban planning is—America now spends more building *just the lights for roads and highways* than on all subways & ground mass transit combined Spending on roadway *pavement* is 18x transit spending

For real though, if LifeLabs only calls from "Private Number" and doesn't accept inbound calls, why are they giving me shit for not picking up in the middle of the work day? You don't pick up either, and I had no way of knowing it was you!

I know we’re all tired of being on Zoom, but some important Zoom etiquette reminders:

- everyone wants to see your cat

- don’t just say “my cat is here,” hold your cat up to the camera so we can see it

- when your cat is on camera, either say “cat” or type “cat” in the chat

Anyways, if you're French Canadian, Cajun, or Jewish, and thinking about having a baby, ask your doctor for a genetics referral. It's free in Ontario (and probably elsewhere!).

I was sympathetic to the chimney issue, which I hadn't seen in NIMBY complaints before. Until the developer offered to pay for them to extend it, and they declined because "maybe he won't pay, or something?"

Will private management improve things? Fair question! I've got my biases against, but like in a world where Metrolinx has more VPs than train conductors you don't have to work hard to convince me that there's efficiencies to be found.

His logic is off about Canada's calculus if Democrats will just be "good cop" and continue anti-trade policies. In that case, Carney still shouldn't surrender, because "stick it to Trump" is good politics in Canada. Cutting a near-identical deal with Democrats in 2029 will get Carney reelected.

"A partisan police force has no place in Canada." Indeed. An important update from the Toronto Police Accountability Coalition. #ONpoli www.tpac.ca/bulletin.php...
Text: While the Police Board has a strong policy prohibiting members of the police service, including the Toronto Police Association, from endorsing political candidates – a policy in conformity with provincial law – the Board and the chief refused to enforce that policy when the Police Association endorsed Doug Ford and then Pierre Poilievre. Instead it asked the Inspector General what it should do.

TPAC challenged the Board (in March 2025) and asked the Inspector General (in April 2025) what was happening. On March 5 of this year, the Inspector General wrote to TPAC stating:
`The Board advised that it considered the concerns raised in the [TPAC]
complaint and determined that revisions to its existing Board Policy entitled Political Activity were appropriate. The Board further advised that it is in the process of revising this policy to ensure it is compliant with the requirements of the Community Safety and Policing Act, 2019. The Board confirmed that the revised policy will be brought forward for consideration at a future Board meeting.’

For more than a year the Board has refused to enforce its own policy and the law. In spite of the letter from the Inspector General almost three months ago, it has not released its new policy - whatever it says - so the public can respond to it.

Municipal election activity has already begun for the election in November. It is critical that the Board commit to follow provincial legislation and prosecute officers who endorse candidates. A partisan police force has no place in Canada.

SFHs get marketed for convenience & affordability (because they're remote & expensive), while condos get marketed for finishes & amenities (because they're small & impractical). But the average person internalizes this as "affordable SFHs" vs "luxury condos", despite the opposite being true.

If you zoom out even a little bit, prices aren't even that high. Inflation-adjusted, we're still like 25% below the 2011-2014 crude oil price plateau, which lasted 3 years and still didn't have a meaningful impact on consumer behaviour.
