I've never understood the appeal of Aerosmith. To me, it's always been like that band that your friend's mom's new boyfriend pretended to like in order to seem 'cool'.

I tend to believe AI can't be conscious because it cannot suffer. If AI eats at the intelligence aspects of work until all that remains is the consciousness aspects of work, then the only work left for humans to do will consist entirely of suffering (e.g. accountability w/o agency). Exhibit A:

A fellow middle aged musician recently endured an excruciating medical situation that inspired me to suggest the most abrasive, devastatingly brutal name ever for his metal band: Passer of Stones.

"Explain how that happens" is a legitimate request! And critique! I am happy to explain all sorts of ways LLMs could hurt humanity, but all of those explanation involve careless people doing careless things. Not rogue software. I do not like this moment in time where nobody cares how things work.

If learning new things is intrinsically rewarding to you, then "AI can do things that you need to be done, but don't understand how to do yourself" is not an obviously unalloyed argument in favor of applying it to every such problem in front of you.

This seems like the right read to me… “fast and exhaustive” does not mean “super intelligent” but it also doesn’t mean “not capable” or “not dangerous,” either. Someone should charge the frontier labs with hacking crimes while the rest of us dust off those P3 security tickets and finally fix them.

Playing God, round 2: Barnes-Hut approximation. I added an optional debug overlay to render the quad tree in green (the dot inside a square is the mass-weighted centroid for bodies inside that node).

A couple of months ago I added shared https and pkg caches to github.com/banksean/sand to save time & traffic. I asked some agents to scrub the design for obv security issues. Codex said the shared caches created an exploitable write path, but I thought that was an overly paranoid response. ...LOL

Given that magnets are dipoles, have you considered the possibility that this recently acquired "chick magnet" of yours has been applying its force in the exact opposite of your intended direction? What I'm saying is everyone thinks your giant belt buckle is gross and you should stop wearing it.

Commodity CPUs have supported SIMD for ages. Seems like we've been leaving substantial performance gains on the table by not taking better advantage of it.

My current agentic workflow (on macOS): CoW clone my work dir. Start an apple/container instance w/ CoW clone mounted at /app. SSH into container, run agent in yolo mode w/ ~no privs (not even gh creds). To keep its changes I pull from CoW clone to host work dir, then push origin using my own creds.

I've been playing more on the keys lately, and this has an amped/overdriven electric piano starting about halfway through. I recorded it with two separate bass parts, so the first half will probably sound like it's just the drums if you play it on phone speakers.

- Inspect a gh action failure using their web UI (can't push a homebrew release tag due to expired credentials) - See "Fix with Copilot" button, click it (naively thinking gh AI would understand gh creds issues) - Copilot creates a "fix" PR: skip the release upload step - What a time to be alive

My most memorable July 4th fireworks experience was during a landing at SFO. We were all glued to the windows. Waves of tiny, silent explosions lit up the sky beneath us like some kind of micro-pyrotechnic diorama. I highly recommend watching from above if you ever get the chance.

Interesting prompt to try with different LLM services, if you frequently use more than one: "what do you remember about me, personally?" As with humans: What they remember about me tells me about their priorities/values. I'm also amused by differences between the impressions I've left on each one.

My god, Octavia Butler, just miss ONCE
 Page from a book saying:

From EARTHSEED: THE BOOKS OF THE LIVING
Choose your Leaders with wisdom and forethought.
To be led by a coward is to be controlled
by all that the coward fears.
To be led by a fool is to be led
by the opportunists who control the fool.
To be led by a thief is to offer up your most precious treasures to be stolen.
To be led by a liar
is to ask to be told lies.
To be led by a tyrant is to sell yourself and those you love into slavery.
