No idea how I managed to write "eminer" here, my keyboard doesn't exactly have those keys in the same spot...
A screenshot of the non-standard android keyboard, "thumbkey" with a rather unconventional layout. n and r aren't exactly easy to mistake here.

Still working on cursed existence! Not happy with how it looks overall, but slowly getting there :) (it's all a bit too simple and clean, even though I do want the town to be nice and tidy, as opposed to the regular dilapidated look fantasy is often going for) #indiedev #gamedev #screenshotsaturday

Did a bit of a post-mortem on my game for the platformer jam #2, it's called dizzy (and needs a different name, because there's a famous DOS-game of that name). Play it if you like, it's very short^^ bananicorn.itch.io/dizzy Because #gamejam, y'know #indiedev #gamedev (rest of alt text follows)

I've participated in the platformer jam #2 over the course of last week, was a lot of fun :) Also I always manage to find it stressful, even if I love it and have enough time. The game has a few levels, most of which are tutorial^^ itch.io/jam/platform... bananicorn.itch.io/dizzy
9 colored squares of differing colors, on top of which two ufo-looking things with a Circular shadow underneath, and a humanoid figure with two arms, but their triangular torso ends in a point. The figure is made up of simple shapes with flat colors. They have two dots for eyes and two flat eyebrows, but no mouth. Their head is otherwise a featureless sphere with no shading. Their torso is triangular with rounded corners and they have thin upper arms and thicker lower arms, ending in 3 sausage fingers each.

My dialogue editor can now also add the conditions for a dialogue to be the starting point of a conversation, a callback, and a function to transform the text before it's shown to the player, for random shenanigans, and I finally fixed zooming on mobile :) #indiedev #gamedev #cursed_existence
A website titled "NPC Test", with a gray box with beveled borders.
The box has a green dot at its top left side, and a green dot at its bottom left side, both to make connections with other dialogue boxes (input/output).
The fields are all empty, with light gray placeholder text in them, labelled as follows square brackets indicate the box starting/ending:
[Title]
[0]
[function (npc, player)
return]
[Dialogue here] (this box is substantially bigger than the others)
[function (dialogue_string)
return changed_dialogue_string]
[function (npc, player)
--callback logic here]
[response here]
and a button labelled "Add response" and in the bottom right corner, a small button with an x on it.

So, I feel like my Markov chain name generator is _kinda_ working as intended, but not quite :D (I think I need to take into account that names can't just end on whatever syllable) Oh, and my code for splitting up words into syllables is _certainly_ wrong, so maybe I should fix that first.
A plain gray textbox with the title, "Globulin" and text that reads:
"HI, my name is Globulin! Let me guess, your name is Dezachartelbertelis"

Below that is a singular answer option:

> That is not my name.

Hehehe, making node editors is fun :D Looking forward to how yours turns out :) And I can't just _not_ show you mine, haha^^
A gray rastered background with several gray boxes on top, connected together with green lines. Each box has (from top to bottom):
- A dotted line inside the box, which is clicked to move the box around
- A singular green circle from which incoming lines are connected, showing where the dialogue flows from
- A white single-line text field labeled "Title"
- A white multi-line text field labeled "Dialogue here"
from zero to three white multi-line text fields labeled "Response here"
- Each response field has a green circle at the side, where the outgoing lines connect
- A dark gray button labelled "Add response"
- A dark gray box with an X on it in the bottom right corner

On top of everything, there is a small gray box with the text "Export to", then a dropdown with "JSON" selected, and a button labelled "Download" next to it, all on a single line. It also has a dark gray box with an X on it in the bottom right corner.

May I introduce? The wrongwurm. I was refactoring and may have mixed up the lindwurm body sprites with those for the rain worm... I'm sorry it had to see the light of day at all, poor creature. #indiedev #indiegame #cursed_existencce
Time stands still. is written on blood-splotches in the top half of the image, and the bottom half shows a rain worm, but only its head is correct - the rest is that of a snake...

Greybox vs current version of my town's tavern! Currently this is probably the extent of my abilities with blender, but I'll get better :) I've also improved the general AI of my entities - now guards will help each other if you attack one of them :) Those fuckers. #screenshotsaturday #gamedev
A 3d-rendering of a L-Shaped room, with grey boxes strewn around to act as placeholders for furniture. It has no windows and we look into it via the walls facing us and the roof being invisible.A dimly lit taven in a simple isometric 3d style. It's a cutaway, where we don't see the front walls (only a small part at the bottom, would be about knee-high), so we can see the interior. The room is symmatrically L-Shaped. There are 4 visible windows letting in some light, and 4 banner-shaped wall hangers, which seem to be made of black-and white cow hide, placed between the windows. Right in the central corner of the room are two humanoid figures, standing on either side of the counter. Behind the barman there's a shelf with lots of bottles. There are 5 square tables placed around the bar, with 4 chairs each. One of the tables has the chairs on top of it, as is done when closing a place for the night.
Some tables have drinking glasses on them. One of them has pint glasses on it and a bottle lying down.

I found a style I like for the curse cards in my game! And it's not even insanely time-intensive :D This one's the card for "agression", roughly modeled after my chonky cat being threatening, haha^^ I think this'll look good on a card, and I can keep that style up :) #gamedev #indiedev

Being chased through the woods by naked people was not on my gamedev checklist for today, yet here we are... (I forgot to pass in the equipment for the bandits when creating them)
A simple isometric 3D scene from a bit of a distance away. where the player character in full armor is being chased by a bunch of naked, bald people.
They all have (mostly full) health bars over them and are low detail enough that I don't have to declare this NSFW.
It's a photo of a screen taken with my phone, so it's all a bit blurry and has some motion blur.

Sorry, I should've led with an example^^ Oftentimes my scenes are rather empty, because it can be prototype leveldesigns and I need to keep things simple anyways^^ I wonder if I'm not focusing on details that don't matter, but there's usually not much to describe anyways^^
A simple isometric 3D scene, with small, differently armored humans scattered around.

Unremarkable dirt floor, with the only other objects being a mossy rock several humans high and wide, in the top center of the image and some vibrant green foliage from a tree in the bottom right.
The tree casts a dark shadow directly to the right of it.

A red sign saying "PULSANTE EMERGENZA", with a stylized button (three nested rectangles, really) and a stylized hand pressing them.
The hand itself can only be described as "dickfingers".
Imagine a u-shape, one side of it shorter. That is the thumb. A curved line separates the tip of the thumb from the rest of it, making it look like a penis.
The upper part of the u shape is the index finger.

Below the sign is a nicely desigend sticker for the 10th anniversary of a Tuningtreffen, but that is hardly relevant.

1/2 Hi! I'm a solo dev working on a roguelike action RPG called cursed_existence! I'm now starting to upgrade the basic-ass graphics I have, since it's all pre-rendered stuff, but I've got a lot to learn^^ The whole point of the game is that you only ever get de-buffs as you level up, but a lot of

@grimclownjay.bsky.social I wanted to polish this some more, maybe with a puff of smoke, but I have no Idea when my brain will let me work on that kinda stuff, so here's the CHEST CANNON! It's fun and goofy, even if a bit rough around the edges - not yet sure where it'll fit in the final game tho^^

Fuck it, I'm fixing this shit tonight. This is just me debugging, but it shows the problem: When I combine my base sprite with weapons and armor, it still gets the skin color of the human. In this case blue, because it's easier to see. #indiedev #gamedev #cursed_existence
A simple 3D-Render of a town-square with a well in the middle, but overlayed on top of it in a grid are blue people in all kinds of poses and looking in all kinds of directions. Their skin and their armor are both dyed in a deep blue. (It's a spritesheet)

Okay, so outdoor/indoor does make a difference, but sometimes not the way people think; My beautiful son, Mojito is cuddly and sweet indside,e the house but outside he'll just run away most of the time (if one can sneak up to him, he'll enjoy some pets) And ofc I'm paying the cat tax, too:
Mojito, the little black furry blob with two eyes and two ears peeking down, on top of a bunch of parquet flooring, stacked almost all the way up to the ceiling.
A little black paw is hanging over the edge of the parquet, and really only his head and part of his upper body is visible.

So this one's a lil' fucked up, but the italians have this A LOT: A plate rack where you place your plates to dry - in a cabinet without floor, right over your sink. This is in a hotel apt, so it's not terribly well-kept, but still I like the principle. Maybe not possible in more humid places?
A metal rack where dining plates are stacked upright next to each other, right over drinking glasses and cups, turned upside-down, placed on a metal grill, so water can drip down.
It's all placed inside a cabinet, mounted over the kitchen sink, which is visible below.
the paint on the back wall of the cabinet is chipping, and there is some rust visible on the very front of the plate rack, so it doesn't make the _most_ sanitary impression, but none of the kitchenware touches any dirt/rust.

I think we may need more of what @rpanich.bsky.social did recently - just showcasing our worst code, so people know that it _can_ happen. The world is not a frictionless vacuum and code can get messy. Sometimes we also know we're committing sins, but leave them for our future selves to clean up:
A picture of some python code, white and pastel colored text on a black background. It's a photo of a part of a rather dirty screen (sorry).
There's a few lines hiding a male character model, and a showing female character model, and vice versa. Also calling a function called "export_object" after switching out the models.

Worse though, there's a comment describing the following, two lines:
# satisfy Make with a fake png

Which is really working against Make, and a hacky workaround at best...

(Question to screen reader users: would you prefer having the actual code in the alt text? It's rather trivial, but I dunno)

Happy little accidents: I had a shader that burned up the curse card from the inside out, making it vanish. But I switched to using the shader directly in a buffer, where the discard directive doesn't delete old pixels, so I ended up with an ashen card :D Keeping that! #indiedev #roguelike #gamedev

Level up screen mostly done - whenever you gain a level in cursed existence, you'll have to choose a new curse to burden yourself with. Some creativity is required by the player, to say the least ;) Now I "just" need to implement the curses :D #indiedev #solodev #roguelike
An isometric town scene is the backdrop; Blood splatters appear in the center of the screen, with white letters on them, spelling "Choose your curse".
Then, three tarot-like cards slide in from the bottom of the screen, and flip around to reval they all just have "TEST" written on them.
The player chooses the central one. The other two slide out of view.
The remaining card burns away (with an effect I still need to work on), and then the blood splatter behind it is wiped a away.

The upper 3 read "Paused", with the same three blackletter fonts from the other images, and the bottom 3 read "Time stands still", with the same three fonts.

Is it ever too early to start on multiplayer, if you're certain you want it? Maybe it won't fit my game in the end, but the one I'm dreaming of, certainly has it! Also, talking local multiplayer, because my networking knowledge is nil. (And I'd have to architect things differently, I guess)
Photo of a videogame in isometric perspective, with two grey humans staring at each other. It's a simple scene, with a stone road running through it, a large rock in the bottom right, an a fence blocking off the top left of the area. there's some grass and a lot of screen glare, making it hard to tell what's in the upper right of the screen. (It's just a white blotch covering that part)

So, I've got a funny bug in cursed_existence on the gameshell - I am using a shader to check against a pre-rendered depth map, but it's nothing fancy. Gonna try to get to the bottom of this, let's learn an additiona thing or two about shaders ;)

Still designing around the centerpiece, but honestly not quite happy with any of my attempts yet - guess I'm going back to code for the time being :)

Working on the backside of a card for my game, cursed existence - a game which will definitely not be a card game, but I like the way this is going :) Think with a nice centerpiece and some more polish, this'll do just fine.
