Sometimes we have to practice humility and admit that the action that needs to be taken is beyond our skill to address. Medical needs are one of those areas we need that humility. Not dismissive pride in our superior spiritual purity, nor fear in the parts of creation we don't understand.

Consider the book of James where it says "If one of you says to them, “Go in peace; keep warm and well fed,” but does nothing about their physical needs, what good is it?" Medical care is a physical need. It requires both faith and action.

So you can see that the concept of the doctor wasn't something Jesus was sceptical about. The family praying and not taking their children at the doctor is not exceptional. We Christians do it all the time. We say "I'll pray for you." in order to let ourselves off the hook from taking action.

As I already acknowledged, he was talking about his own mission. As I said before, I had read it myself. I did choose a verse that only tangentially talked about our topic. That said, could you think about why Jesus would have chosen to talk about a sick person needing a doctor in this metaphor?

Yes that is what he's talking about, but why do you think he chose to use the metaphor of a sick person needing a doctor? He did so because it would be a statement that was obvious to his listeners (his disciples) that a sick person would need a doctor.

I was reminded of what he said in Matthew (my favorite book) and Luke, about his own ministry: "It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick." He didn't order people to receive medical care, but he did understand the role of a doctor & saw it as sensible for a sick person to go to one.
