Dreary drama following sad sack Charles (Heard) as he mopes around pining for his ex Laura (Hurt). I’ve no idea how anyone would class this as a comedy, it’s all so flat and dull. If you want to have a good time watching a couple break up I’ve two words for you - Annie fucking Hall.

I keep seeing this mentioned on my timeline. I’ve never seen it but I’m slightly put off hearing that it’s about an obsessive man determined to get an ex-girlfriend back. I hate obsessive weirdos in films and still have nightmares thinking about Modern Romance. Anyway… #nowwatching

This somehow managed to be even worse than I’d remembered. A tiresome slog that never gets out of first gear. Scott sucks every ounce of life out of what should be an exciting thriller. Hard to be believe this shorter cut was done to improve the pace, I’ve seen faster moving Béla Tarr movies. Awful.

Watched The Lost Children of Tuam this afternoon with a profound sense of sadness and a furious rage. Frank Berry is a wonderful, economical director (Ireland’s Ken Loach?) and Dolan is terrific as the heroic Catherine Corless. Everyone Irish person should see this.

I must be a fan of this story because I quite enjoyed this. The ending is easily the weakest of the 4 movies but it’s a still a fun b movie adventure that hurtles along at a breakneck pace. Bonus points for Kidman being even more attractive than usual.

Passable medieval romp as a group of peasants, fed up with paying taxes, go on a rampage to London to reason with the king. 3 parts Michael Palin shouting “nail ‘em up I say, hammer some sense into ‘em” and one part Robin Hood. Ok but not one I’d ever watch again.

Myers is a lot of fun as a silly character ideally suited to him, sadly Myers' script is thin, flimsy stuff. There's a few laughs here and there but an awful lot of scenes are embarrassingly flat and lurch awkwardly into each other. I have no desire to rewatch the sequels.

Soderbergh’s Kafka is another film that’s never had a HD release anywhere in the world (did it even get a dvd release?) so great to see BOTH versions getting a 4K. Another one off the “missing on bluray” list. Now where’s Boorman’s The General?

Well it’s definitely the lesser of the 3(?) American Body Snatchers movies but this is still pretty decent b movie fun and better than its reputation suggests. Coming off Bad Lieutenant I’m guessing Ferrara just wanted to have some fun.

Solid, entertaining crime flick with dynamite turns from Winstone and Kingsley (both playing against type). Glazer gets a bit carried away at times, stealing tricks from his ad days (Guinness surfing horses I’m looking at you) but it’s an impressive feature debut and he’s been brilliant ever since.

A solid cast - Bening is especially good - a terrific Bernstein score and plenty of worthwhile individual moments but the lack of a strong narrative focus left me longing for the big con the film constantly promises but never gives us. Decent but it had the potential to be great.

Wenders just isn’t for me. This has some beautiful imagery and Stanton is effortlessly watchable but 145 minutes of characters struggling to put basic sentences together in scenes stretched out way too long just doesn’t do it for me. Probably my favourite of the ones I’ve seen but still a big no.

I’d never heard of this film but was intrigued when I learned it was filmed in Dublin and saw a clip of Olivier drinking in Cleary’s on Amien St. IMDb even provided a “couldn’t make it up” fact about the film. I must track it down.

I’m going to watch this over the weekend. I’ve never seen it before but I’m NOT a fan of the director (to put it mildly). I haven’t seen all of his other work (the road trilogy) but anything I have seen has been a real chore to sit through. I hope this clicks with me, definitely a fan of the cast.

There’s some good stuff here but it’s all undone by repetitive action scenes, tiresome humour (that mainly consists of people yelling “Bastard!” at each other) and cgi that looks like a PS3 cutscene. Not bad but 10yrs after The Wailing it has to be viewed as a crushing disappointment.
