BallisticToaster Returns Tomorrow: September 19, 2026 1PM EST

It's been way too long since I've shown my face on Twitch, especially with how much has been going on in my life since April and how burned out I'd gotten from it all. I wasn't in the right headspace to give content creation the energy I wanted to & watching my last few VODs and re-reading my last blog post made it abundantly clear that I had to take a step back and re-evaluate a lot of things.

There wasn't a single breaking point where I just went "aight im done, peace out." Life outside of streaming kept getting busier, things outside my control kept piling up, & somewhere along the way I just had less and less gas in the tank. In hindsight, it was probably obvious from the outside that I was running on empty before I even realized it myself. Now that I'm in a better headspace, I think it might be time to step in front of the camera & behind the mic once more.

I'm not trying to come roaring back at full speed recreating exactly what I was doing before. Think of this as a soft reboot of the channel that's more sustainable, spontaneous, and laid-back, kinda like the early years of the channel when I had the most fun with it. (Naturally with the slightest chance of crashouts & "Won't Get Fooled Again" needle drops.) I've got a few ideas for stuff I wanna work on that I've been scripting during my absence, but this time I want to give myself the room to actually enjoy making things. I don't want content creation to become yet another obligation where I'm fixated on the metrics or where it leads to instead of enjoying the process of actually doing the damn thing.

Besides, I've done more than enough waffling over what the "perfect" comeback is supposed to look like & all that's done is hand my anxiety a louder megaphone.

Better now than never, and better to come back Toasty than toast.

I got my ass kicked by Phantom before ending stream last night, but between the game feel, art direction, and how Resident Evil coded it is, it's been a lot of fun! Really glad I went with the original PS2 version. Will definitely stream more of it next week. Next up: Marathon (1994) on Saturday.

Still wanna play more of it but the best word to describe how it feels so far is "deliberate." Dante's strikes are heavier, enemies hit harder, & spacing matters, so you have to be efficient with combos, space enemies out properly, and know when to strike or you get destroyed.

Some part of me finds it weirdly refreshing; games had yet to really coalesce toward a standard control layout at the time so something that feels this alien to me right from the jump (ba dum tss) is enough to get its hooks into me. Helps that DMC1 feels genuinely fun to play.

I'm really enjoying Devil May Cry 1 (all 1hr 30mins I played between bitching about the Netflix anime & trying to get PCSX2 to recognize my controller lol) but the original control layout has wreaked all kinds of havoc on my muscle memory coming from DMC3-5. Even then: DMC1's GOATed.
