I had good experience with an Edifier Active System. They aren't exactly hi fi per se, but you can hook up a turntable and CD player without any other equipment. Has Bluetooth too. I've "graduated" to thrifted vintage stereo stuff but I still use the Edifier in my kitchen.

There are two types of people in this world: those who have seen the biggest hot dog they'll ever see in this life; and those who have yet to see it

Maximum Pleasure Guaranteed is a fun, greasy, overstuffed thriller about a bad-decisions single mom multitasking between murder, journalism, the PTA & a toxic custody battle. It doesn’t always make the most sense, but it has a great cast, especially Absolute Genius Tatiana “Orphan Black” Maslany

I was familiar with Jamie but I was still a teensy bit surprised by the chapter about the racism inherent to food production in the book with a hot dog on the cover

New local classic rock station says it's staying away from computer generated playlists! Sweet. I love traditional terrestrial radio. Marketing on their social media? AI generated, of course. Yuck. Pass.

This is so embarrassing. These are police officers, not little boys being scolded by their dad. Why on earth are the police being asked to 'knock it off, fellas' when they are breaking these privacy laws? They would even likely know exactly which laws they're breaking! Cmon man

It pains me a little to admit, but boy do I like listening to Phish concerts on music streaming apps. I'm three songs into their most recent release recorded at Saratoga and really loving it. Deeply uncool take but I always enjoy them! Fuck it man

It is time once again to discuss the Most Dad Things we have done in the past year. A couple of reminders: - gender is a social construct, anyone can do Dad Things - you need not be a parent to do a Dad Thing - the definition of a Dad Thing is entirely subjective and maybe made up I’ll go first:

This thread is fantastic. Every song in here is either a big cosign from me or about to be a new favourite. Thank you for highlighting these artists. I love country music and I think it should belong to everybody.

Accents are so fun and cool. I wish they weren't mocked so often because I *love* them. I couldn't sound un-Canadian if my life depended on it, so I hope people enjoy it!

Jack Johnson by Miles Davis is really incredible. How did this get by me for so long? It informs so much of the thinky guitar stuff I liked in the 1990s. It feels like a master text that everyone else drew from.

The Mrs and I saw Disclosure Day last night and boy was it rough. The trailer was exciting! Movie bad. The characters in the movie were dragged around by the plot and none of the choices made sense.

I'm pretty struck by the irony of Seth Rogen working on a new version of "The Littlest Hobo" while acting as a spokesman for a prominent gig employer. Will today's hero dog be a member of Canada's working poor? Maybe he'll have a little orange bag strapped to him.

Ontario government is running ads about public parks, claiming that they're going to keep them clear of "encampments." What a cynical way to frame Doug Fords government's mishandling of both the housing crisis and the addiction problems facing every community here.

Imagine talking about any other public service this way. Does the government keep public hospitals “afloat”? What about when it gave Marine Atlantic $169 million to support its operations in 24/25? The media does the bidding of those who want to private Canada Post when they adopt this framing.

To be honest, I think even without bringing religion into it, you can question the idea of building a gold statue of someone. I greatly admire many, many people; I cannot think of one I think it would be un-weird to honor with a gold statue.

I get that results equal pay for these managers, but many people are in similar positions and are not entitled to get so mad they have to be kicked out and sent home. It's harmful for men and people around them to see someone at the top like Cox given carte blanche to rage 9-10x a year.

The secret to finding deals is to check every single record when you visit a record store. And to read a lot about music and really love a lot of different kinds of music. Murmur is a top notch album. It's perfect.

Lately people on my route have been telling me (to my face!) that I'm lucky to have work. I don't have any control over the post office's mgmt decisions, or the way conservative owned media depicts public services and the working class. But people love telling me I'm losing. It doesn't feel good.

Rubberband Man by the Trammps: I listened to it today because of The Game/50 Cent "Hate it Or Love It" which has such an incredible composition behind it. Come to learn a different part of it is in J Dilla's Donuts. Being a fan of Rap is so much fun. youtu.be/JcwmTqC4pUE

I'd love to hear you chat with the Off Menu boys. I'm not a "food guy," but I love a good interview. "Talk about your fave food" becomes "talk about people and places that are meaningful to you" so quickly, and I think they've grown a bit over the series
