Jack Johnson by Miles Davis is really incredible. How did this get by me for so long? It informs so much of the thinky guitar stuff I liked in the 1990s. It feels like a master text that everyone else drew from.

My 9yo made the mistake of sharing his grade 4 writing journal with me. Now, I won't stop talking about his April Fool's entry from earlier this year. Shared here with his permission.

April fool's day NEWS

Reporting on April 1st 2025 where a record breaking snail started going 29 miles per hour. These snails can only be found in the Nord Du Québec region of Québec, Canada. People were terrified of these snails because they were 3 FEET TALL! I think that these snails are too large to be real.

Happy #LetterboxdFriday! What's your last four watched? Good Boy gets four on the back of "they totally pulled it off." Vampires is bad but has some Carpenter magic. Dirty Harry is cool but it's the kind of film your racist uncle thinks is real. Full star for Lalo Schffrin score on that flick.

Went to the second-hand store for pants and returned with a very nice copy of Ray's 'Modern Sounds in Country and Western Music' which might be the best record ever pressed in London, Ontario. Complete with original inner liner, which bragged about how it was made here. Catnip for a nerd like me.

What is going on at Canada Post? Thanks to the folks at Kingston local for this infographic. TL:DR Canada Post management has spent a lot on infrastructure over the past five years and invested deeply in Purolator. CUPW members wages have not kept up with inflation over the last 5 years.

I read this last year and was describing it to my wife. Graham Greene is amazing. They're both married and fall in love. She dies of guilt. I fuckin loved it.

In large part because of its fantastic score, I keep thinking about Night On The Galactic Railroad, made in Japan in 1985. It's weird. A children's movie about friendship and death. It is almost glacially slow. Beautiful and a little difficult.

Since we're all going ape for film references on Mets TV, I wanted to make sure this image was available on here. Incredible shot through the glasses. Mets are the nerdiest team going (complimentary)

This weekends 12 inch spins: This Jay Dee release is fantastic. Listen to the instros first, then hear the rhymes they write for em, then listen to the instros again. Clang Clang Ho is Guided By Voices letting it all hang out. My Mike Nesmith LP still has the Zellers price tag.

My afternoon walk to the bookstore yielded this. The whole first side is a party. Can't believe there's an album funky enough to put "Jungle Boogie" halfway through the program.

Tonight's first listen is RAM, which I love. Ram On was our wedding song almost 19 years ago. Always bewildered when I read the critical reaction in 1973 was that it's terrible. It's cheeky, fun and plainly beautiful to my ears.

We just spun this one and it's so, so joyful. Came out in 1971, so it may be too old to be Disco, but you can definitely dance to it. Big guitars. "When You Got Trouble" is a huge tune for me.

I've been spending more time in online communities having to do with film, which encouraged me to settle up with the local library so I can use their online programs and physical collections. My reward has been seeing this fantastic John Carpenter film for the first time.

Just watched Frank Darabont's The Mist. Big fun! 2000s era CGI, lots of spooky stuff and all of the "Hey! It's That Guys" you could ever ask for.
Laurie Holden, Jeffrey DeMunn and Frances Sternhagen are in awe of some spooky thing above them off camera. It's super misty.

What I'd give to see Lancashire and Martindale play embittered rivals. I don't care what they're fighting about, so long as they're scheming, hate each other and mean mug often.

Thankful tonight for my French education. It held on just enough to watch a moody noir picture with very little dialogue. Le Samouraï is a thrilling time capsule. I hope I never lose my curiosity.

When the going gets tough, I listen to the saddest songs, and it... helps? I love this album. It's one of Willie Nelson's best, and I don't think we'd have ever heard it if the IRS hadn't shaken him down in 1991. Title track stops me every time. Both discs are just gorgeous.

Outstanding. From a Canadian Simpsons meme group. Nailed it, bud. #cupw #canlab
In the first frame of this meme, Mr Burns is representing Canada Post, and says, "Ah, yes. Naturally, we can't pay you a livable wage because we're strapped for cash."

In the second frame, Mr Burns turns around in his chair revealing the chair is made of gold, coins and stacks of dollar bills. The chair is labeled "new mega plant" "new fleet of vehicles" and "management bonuses" as Homer and Smithers look on in dismay.
