Study authors find the first wave of exclusionary zoning in the 20s & 30s focused on European immigrants and religious minorities. The post-war suburban expansion is well-documented. Later “The Big Downzone” from 1967-1975 followed school desegregation orders and civil rights advances in court.
• Original adoption, 1920s and '30s. This era was marked by adoption of basic zoning, with relatively straightforward requirements, across many communities, but not all. By 1937, 62
Massachusetts municipalities had adopted zoning, most in eastern Massachusetts. Most of those adopted zoning during the booming 1920s, but many such as Canton, Carlisle, Dover, Natick, Sharon, Watertown, Wellesley, and Wilmington adopted zoning during the Depression.
• The postwar era to approximately 1968. In these years, just about every community in Greater Boston adopted zoning, and many tightened their requirements. Zoning became more complicated, and municipalities began to create requirements for municipal authorities to use discretion in decision-making about approval for residential construction projects. In this era, a belt of particularly affluent communities circling Boston, such as Weston, Carlisle, and Dover, zoned for very large minimum lot sizes for single-family homes.

NSC-131 is facing another civil rights lawsuit today in NH, adding to an existing one in MA, which has put them in a panic to raise legal funds. Their givesendgo has raised just $3700 out of the $100k they're seeking. Previous civil suits were dismissed, will be worth seeing how these play out.
screenshot of a news headline that reads; Neo-Nazi group accused of violating civil rights law for disrupting N.H. drag story hour
Nineteen unnamed members of the New England neo-Nazi group, NSC-131, and their leader were accused of violating New Hampshire’s anti-discrimination laws.screenshot of a legal document that reads; Introduction
1. The Commonwealth brings this action against the defendants, the Nationalist Social Club, Christopher Hood and Liam McNcil (hereafter collectively "Defendants", to address their escalating violations of the state's civil rights laws, and the disruptions to public peace and safety caused by their unlawful conduct.
2. The Nationalist Social Club is a private association that is active in New England.
Defendants Hood and McNeil direct and control the Club's activities in Massachusetts.
3. Defendants have recently and repeatedly engaged in violent, threatening, intimidating, and coercive conduct that has interfered with the exercise of rights secured by state and federal law; unlawfully obstructed access to public accommodations, including libraries and hotels; and damaged, defaced, and unlawfully intruded upon property throughout Massachusetts.
(only three lines remained claiming violation of civil rights act.)screenshot from NSC-131's telegram chat that reads: The previously beaten and embarrassed NH Attorney General John Formella and his lackey John Locke are bringing forward a new case against NSC 131 for our action outside of a Concord, "Drag Queen Story Hour".
This is an attempt to dogpile our organization with lawfare in light of the Massachusetts Attorney General's recent fillings against us just this week.
The occupied government has declared Total War on the Nationalist Social Club, and their weapon is costly legal fees and litigation. There is no doubt about this, they want to stop what we do by bankrupting our activists and hoping that we can't garner enough support and funding to raise a worthy defense to their frivolous legal attacks.
