I think a pretty good recession indicator is Taylor Swift singing about Cleveland and Florida instead of London and Paris.

i couldn't figure out what horror movie to watch tonight to tally a notch for #31DaysOfHorror, but having to sit through the entirety of that Saints game on MNF should count. ⚜️

my adoration for this scene is why when i saw Elina Löwensohn's name appear in the opening credits of BLOODY TENNIS, a new movie i saw at #FantasticFest last week, my heart leapt from chest in joy, and that's before minute 1 of her actual performance, which was great.

dunno about you, but as someone armed w/ only the bare minimum foreknowledge of the musical WICKED, the only song i knew going into both movies is "Defying Gravity," so that it was the climax of the 1st movie did not bode well for the prospects for its sequel.

i clocked it quickly when Ahbra lofted a softball question necessitating @theamynicholson.bsky.social come onstage from her seat, that Adam Egypt Mortimer was about to propose to Amy during the q&a after the encore of his new film PATHETIC FALLACY, but it made the moment no less wonderful to witness.

all one's most cherished memories eventually fade over time, but for now, here's hoping that moment when the crowd at last night's #FantasticFeud at #FantasticFest started chanting "Blood Cort" can remain as incandescently persistent in my faulty brain as my ability to recite Ezekiel 25:17 verbatim.

after the last 3 months of #NFL preseason discourse anointing the #LARams as the prohibitive favorite to win the super bowl ad nauseam, how the once & future kings of the league have gone on to finish week 1 in last place in their own division w/ a -20 points differential is 10 out of 10, no notes.

For the better part of 16 years, I've worked on a game show during Fantastic Fest and it & the fest are one of the best things in my life. There's a "Family Feud" Survey Says element to the show and we always want as many responses as possible. Share your thoughts, pass the link around, and let me know if you'll be at FF next week!"

i was *so* close to getting fully caught up on my #letterboxd backlog for 2026, but then having to account for how June's rewatch of ALL ABOUT LILY CHOU-CHOU didn't have an antecedent banished me down a summer of 2021 death spiral to log when i'd 1st seen Shunji Iwai's 2001 techno-ennui fable. sigh.

some of it (YYYs, Franz Ferdinand, Arcade Fire) & as Hunter alluded to, proto-Aughtalo Disco, like Gang of Four, but how it's getting randomly interspersed w/ the likes of Gino Vannelli, Sanford Townsend Band, Dave Raynor, Larsen-Feiten Band, Lauren Wood, Airplay, Pages, et al., has been fun times.
