My last day of summer break (before PD, not before students, though I’m not sure it would make much of a difference) I just always feel deeply, deeply sad. And that’s what I’m feeling today. So tired and so sad.

There’s a place now that does gluten free schnitzel. Ashland is seriously one of my favorite places on earth.

My baby (cat) needs seven teeth out and I am absolutely beating myself up over it. She absolutely fights against even brushing her fur and never lets anyone near her mouth. She’s blind and her whiskers are super sensitive and I think just has sensory issues in general. But ugh. Seven.

So I won a sweepstakes and now get to go to the Oregon Shakespeare festival again and picking dates is so hard but I am so excited because Ashland is not only great for theater but also amazing for gluten free food and I am ready to EAT.

Gave myself until Tuesday to make a decision about auditioning for a show I absolutely adore at the local theater. The audition is tomorrow and I still haven’t made a decision. I guess that’s a decision in itself.

I was 23 and desperately trying to move on from that because my principal was listening nearby so that I didn’t say anything that may suggest the true fact that I did not choose the curriculum and agreed it should be changed because that would make the school look bad somehow.

She’s here too, just not active. She used to come up in my people you may know all the time due to proximity that is no longer the case and I know her pen name because she told me, at parent teacher conferences, after the kid told me that their mom wrote erotica.

I was able to confirm that the child I taught is now 18 and a high school graduate and managing that alongside the image of a sixth grader that I didn’t get to finish the year with because of Covid and then never saw again because I moved districts… Wow.

I have no intentions to interact with her (when I was her child’s teacher, she posted multiple times some not quite true things related to me for engagement online that were thankfully harmless and anonymous but still annoying, especially given that I adored the kid) but curiosity won out.

Last night I finally buckled and downloaded threads when one of instagram’s recommended threads posts was from a former student’s mother who I have long known maintains a very active social media presence due to being an indie author.

Every single time I’m at the vet with Enigma or Adzuki someone struggles with their name or asks me how to say it (never an issue with Aurora). Both of them are pretty straightforward to sound out so it gets me every time and is a reminder that phonics education was not just spotty in the young.

Cruising has a weird sort of guilt where you feel like you’re cheating on your main waiter when you go a specialty restaurant just because you aren’t a fan of the main menu that night. Like I promise it isn’t you, thank you for being the absolute best with my dietary restrictions.

How often are body doubles used? I know for sure of at least twice, but I think it may happen more because otherwise, hitting some of those cues and not being out of breath is wild.

Is there a reason Christine has been directed to be full back to the audience so often? I’m not upset, just want to know what the thought is.

Now that I’ve been directing instead of performing, my thoughts at musicals are entirely different. For example, in the first half of Phantom of the Opera, I have thought:

Testament spoilers Two girls kiss in the final episode and all the straights on Facebook are saying how it’s a “platonic best friend kiss” to “comfort and say goodbye”. Idk maybe I’m just super lesbian but I have never once kissed my besties on the lips.

Brain on a loop over the fact that I didn’t get the dishes done this morning and therefore am behind and since I don’t get home early today I may not catch up. When I didn’t get them done bc I had to clean up a spill. Doesn’t matter. Failed this morning.

Today I cried over breaking a plate. I did not cry when I heard my grandmother had passed. My grief response is broken and I feel guilty because of it.

I hate hate hate the end of the school year. So much overwhelm. So little time left. Emotions everywhere. Schedules being off. I want to start my summer but I also want to crawl into a hole and scream.

If that was the amount of time I was given for him, what am I supposed to do when my mother calls at 6:20 in the morning to say that the grandmother who lived across the country that I hardly knew is gone? Am I supposed to take the time teenage me wasn’t given? Am I supposed to go work and teach?

Over a decade ago, the grandfather I grew up with, who was one of my favorite people on the whole planet, died suddenly a few days before my 19th birthday. I was in the middle of Winco, buying food for college. My mom made me finish the shop. The next day I drove down for sophomore year.

I’m worried for my mom. That I know. I wish she was out there. I wish she wouldn’t go to work tomorrow and that she didn’t have disabilities that make getting on a plane difficult. I wish it wouldn’t make things worse since apparently my grandmother is only recognizing my aunt.

I feel awful. My mom calls and tells me my grandma (her mom) has days, maybe a week left. And I just feel numb. I haven’t seen her in over a decade (she lives across the country) and she always forgets my birthday and I should feel more. But how do you process losing someone barely in your life?

On this day in 1933, Nazis raided the Magnus Hirschfeld library in Berlin. The world’s greatest collection of LGBTQ books and scientific papers were looted and later burned, erasing decades of research into sexuality and gender identity. ‘Where they burn books, in the end they will burn humans too’.

Spring cleaning mood got me so antsy. Like all I can think about is wanting to replace the desk that we can’t ever make functional with seating that can also be used for guests (like a daybed?) and has storage/the ability to store things under it and also having a small veggie and herb garden.

I feel like I would really thrive with being .8 or .6 at work because I can keep my motivation going so long as there’s some structure in the day. But I can’t afford going down in pay, so instead I try to get everything done on my breaks and then hit these walls. Because breaks don’t have structure.

charlotte @b00kwyrm.bsky.social · 09/04/2026
There hits a point in every school break where the lack of structure makes my motivation crash and I feel like I can’t do anything. And that has happened today. With plenty more to do.

Got an incorrect birthday email for my oldest cat since for some reason the vet has her birthday listed as my middle cat’s birthday and just thinking back on the mortifying time when the vet asked about her behavior and if she’s been acting upset and I responded “well, she’s a Gemini.”

"The color is repellent, almost revolting; a smouldering unclean yellow, strangely faded by the slow-turning sunlight." I made a "Yellow Wallpaper" piece back in 2017, but I re-read the story over the weekend and wanted to try again. Much happier with this version 🖤
illustration inspired by Charlotte Perkins-Gilman's 1891 short story "The Yellow Wallpaper" depicting a woman touching sickly yellow torn wallpaper on a wall while shadowy hands reach toward her. There is another tall shadow of a figure on the wall and both figures look toward the viewer.

I mean, I know several people who have taught special ed because they were working for the district and the district couldn’t find a credentialed teacher, so they put them into a classroom and paid for their intern credential until they cleared it.
