There's something about a chin lift when someone is hurting.

“It’s nearly unheard of for courts to have children with others, especially the Diamond Court. My father, a Rose Fae, fell in love with a Diamond Fae, and after I was born, she wanted nothing to do with me; she left me in his care. Quartz is a weak stone, easily broken. I was… unwanted.” He hid his hand—and shame—in the folds of his cloak. “Your father loved you, Ezra Rose.” She hoped he believed her. Ezra’s gaze remained on the ground, like he had never realized what his last name truly meant. That someone had once loved him. He wiped his eyes as he said, “Do you want one to take…” “Home?” she said, finishing his sentence. She placed her hand on his chest, her fingers against the stone that covered his heart. His left hand came to hers, curling his fingers over them. This time, she brushed a stray hair from his face before tilting his chin to look into his watery eyes. Even though she was nearly a foot shorter than him, she could still make him look at her. “I’d love one.”

So I've been struggling with getting back into writing. Today i got the urge to open up on of my books and the way I teared up when I read the end of the prologue in Of Fate and Fire I fucking *wrote* this.

A scream left Fate’s throat as Time’s threads pierced into her body. The woman fought Time, desperately trying to rid her hand from her wrist. Regrets poured into Fate like rainwater snuffing out the heat of death. The tears that had refused to fall finally caressed her cheeks. Time’s face was laced with hate. Now, she knew of Fate’s betrayal, of the creation of her twins. She fed into their fates with her own. Their blood would be spilled just like hers. She would never know them. Pain tugged at her body, her skin, and her insides. Threads tore through her as quickly as Time’s scowl did. The end of Fate was in Time’s hands. Time whispered, anger lacing her words, “How could you?” “I—” Fate’s world vanished into a cloud of red and black.

#wipsnips Had to dig for this one, but Dreamtaker (Zodiac Book 2) is full of nightmares.

Jase stumbled against the table when he held in his horror at the sight of her. He knew who she was and why she was there. Her disappointment made the room suffocating. He pressed his bloody hands to the table. “I never wished for this to happen!” His hand came to his forehead, leaving blood on the black streaks in his hair. “What did you expect from me? I was only a child!” Pain ripped through his back, focusing on the scars. “I couldn’t stop him! I’m sorry!” Panic continued to fill him as he spoke in rasps, “You…you have to believe me!” The woman finally turned to face him, her face betraying no emotion. His eyes grew wide when hers focused on his. The hole in her forehead from the gunshot that he failed to prevent stared back at him. He gripped the sides of his head as her face changed from the Queen of Aria’s to Liya’s. Blood ran down Liya’s forehead as her right eye changed from ocean blue to white. Jase shot up from the floor, gripping his forehead, trying to stop shaking. The nightmares were getting worse.

Time chuckled, low and deep. It’s her. Her ex-lover stepped into the curtained sunlight and took slow, purposeful steps forward. Fate held her head high. Long black and white hair hung over her shoulders; the two colors parted directly down the middle. Time’s lip quivered as Fate ran her hand through her hair. Irresistible as ever. Her still gorgeous wings—one white, one black—spread behind her shoulders. Fate paused in the cavern and dismissed her wings with a flick of her wrist. Feathers rained down, disappearing into dust. Time moved, her joints popping and her face twisting into a sinister grin. “Fate, my love, you’ve finally come,” she paused as a cloaked man peered into the cave, “to visit.”
