Hayek argued that central planning fails, as it requires unavailable informational and computational abilities. Does AI change this? As I show here, the situation is complex. In particular: the key issue to be discussed is not just whether AI can enable central planning - but whether we want it to.

I'm so happy our paper on the ethics of decoding animal signals using AI is out! First conceived for a talk at Princeton's Center for Human Values conf AI and Animals in 2023 (talk 🔗 www.tinyurl.com/4vrdyeem) we argue against decoding without first having a robust ethical commitment to listening.
