I'm sure all of you are devastated or disappointed by today's news. I can only say business is business and David Ellison is legally trapped into his own settlement. Filmmaking itself still has a hopeful future with new creators and fresh blood looking to reinvent the system.

Definitely not happy the merger got approved, but I’m not gonna bow my head in despair. I’m still fighting for a brighter future for filmmaking no matter what and I know this merger will only hurt Ellison in the long run. No matter what, I’m still holding strong for good movies.

That short released in mid-May 1940. Two months later in July, "A Wild Hare" released. Up until that point, this rabbit had been a massive failure with audiences. They gave the character one more try and I can imagine many studio workers not thinking it would work out compared to Porky and Daffy...

"You Ought To Be In Pictures" is about Daffy talking Porky into quitting Termite Terrace for a movie career. It's great but it's weird to look at this and realize not a single studio member knew what was about to happen to Looney Tunes... It's a rare window into a time when Bugs Bunny didn't exist.

Friendly reminder Porky Pig played a little bit of a villainous role in the scarlet pumpernickel short. A good example of how flexible the looney tunes can be.

DTEBU on the other hand, just decided only to focus on an established duo who work really well together, and remove all the others. That way, they could just focus on the story and gags... rather than wasting time going: "Okay, so how do we shoehorn Foghorn Leghorn and Pepe Le Pew into this movie?"

The looney tunes are actors. They are flexible characters that can fit into any scenario. Foghorn should be allowed to play a villain. Also, because it’s funny and the guy is based on a character called Senator Claghorn. Also, let’s not forget those KFC ads.

Hot take: I like this portrayal but I’m sick and tired of everyone saying this is the only portrayal of Lola that’s funny. Lola became more looney following her debut in Space Jam. She started to appear in LT DC comics and was written to be real aggressive and savage but also really funny.

Anyone watching pre-1948 Looney Tunes today doesn't know how good they have it: Turner's prints were not in the best shape, and often looked very poor and faded compared to the post-1948s that WB had. It really did take WB getting them back to finally give those shorts the remaster they needed.

Finch won an Oscar for his Howard Beale, but it was posthumous; he died two months before the ceremony. Beyond Network, his filmography is rich and varied, well worth a look. #botd #moviesky #filmsky
Film still from Network showing Peter Finch as newscaster Howard Beal standing in a raincoat with his arms outstretched in a television studio. He's wearing a raincoat ; his hair is wet, and he looks distraught. The headline above is "Yes, we know exactly how you feel."

I’m gonna keep going about this because I need to set the record about Chris as Mickey. 1. Chris diamantopoulos is not a celebrity. He’s kind of in the league of Ben Schwartz where he’s kind of famous but also not. 2. Plot twist he actually turned down doing Mickey he felt he wasn’t right for it.

Pepe wasn't a freaking predator, for Jones' sake. An overly enthusiastic paramour, yes, but the sex pest's behavior comes from selfishness and a genuine hatred of women. Pepe was a lover, just like his creator. Great take on him, btw.

Couldn’t agree more. Check out this thread by @angiegreeley.bsky.social. Traditional animation still thrives in overseas markets especially in Europe and Japan. Imagine how much money will be saved long term. The major studios need to innovate. Do what A24, Neon and even Ketchup are doing.

3D CGI animation is getting more expensive, and if studios don't invest more in traditional animation, it's probably not going to end well. There IS demand for more 2D animation, and they need to realize this. They also need to stop investing in AI. #NoAI

We got a couple of recent full-length 2D animated film, namely The Day the Earth Blew Up: A Looney Tunes Movie and Avatar: The Legend of Aang, so there is hope that 2D animation will make a big comeback if studios stop believing that 2D animation "won't be commercially successful."

This is why studios should be taking financial risks. 2D animation should at least be given a chance on the big screen. Studios weren't always afraid that 2D animation won't be successful. 3D CGI animation wasn't very popular until the 90's when Toy Story came out.
