I'm watching Jekyll and Hyde tonight so naturally, I have to go back and watch a few cartoons, starting with 1947's "Dr Jekyll and Mr Mouse". As far as I'm concerned, the true comedy here is the lengths Tom will go to just to avoid sharing a bowl of cream with Jerry. Let's poison him!!

Tom and Jerry has always been good but outside of a major Christmas-themed soft spot of mine, "The Bodyguard" (and the previous short "Million Dollar Cat") is when the cat and mouse went from good to great. They repeat the "Jerry has a protective bro" bit many times but this is where it started...

Next up: Looney Tunes. I have two in mind, starting with 1955's "Hyde and Hare". The plot is basically "What if Bugs Bunny was adopted by Dr Jekyll?" I'm a Freleng loyalist but even as a kid, this was never one of my faves. The comedy's there but I just never liked the doc, mutated or normal...

This is gonna sound crazy but I never really found Go Compare annoying... As for what IS annoying, my mind goes immediately to Sheila's Wheels. It's a car insurance company. It's from at least 2006. I hated that jingle back then and after rediscovering it on tape, yeah it still sucks 🤣

Spider-Noir was fun but when I was given the choice, it was a no-brainer. If it's a 1930s noir product, you just have to go black and white just for the vibe. Fortunately, it looked great and felt really genuine... Thank God...zilla for this one!!

This is a weird one I don't think I went to much. You get a dose of Frank Tashlin, you can't go wrong with "Robin Hood Daffy" and "I Haven't Got A Hat" is a historical must. Beyond that, you get some mediocre Porky and other random pig shorts you'll quickly forget about... Verdict: Meh.

I saw the words "Spy Kit" on the Road Runner case and I immediately knew what it was. It's similar or even identical to this DVD. I got this for Christmas a decade ago. It's all late-era Road Runner... Imagine putting this on at Christmas and discovering 80% of it is directed by Rudy Larriva!

3 o'clock in the fucking morning startup time!! If you weren't there, before CN Too became a 24/7 channel, it actually ran from 3am to 7pm, eventually sharing the mid-morning timeslots with Cartoonito from 2007 onwards. True story: I actually used to set my alarm for 3am just to watch CN Too...

OK team, new plan!! Steven Universe has been bumped to make room for Buzz Lightyear and I've penciled in Sonic X. Essentially, I'm set until next August and we now have some Disney and a bit of anime to break up the monotony of non-stop Cartoon Network...

Have you seen The Orville? No? You're missing out. The first season is a bit wobbly but the second and third seasons are genuinely great. I would even go so far as to say The Orville is by far the best show he has ever produced, more than Family Guy and American Dad...

It was not good... It really wasn't... If you haven't seen Daffy and Porky Meet The Groovie Goolies, don't bother. Every single conceivable aspect of that production just sucks. It comes really close to the title of "Worst Looney Tunes Product Of All Time", even closer than Buddy and Larriva RR...

It's good so far but I imagine I'll become even more invested after the "Grim and Evil" portion passes. The show does become hilarious as it goes on, it just needs to find its footing. Ed, Edd n Eddy and many other shows had the same issue...

I have been informed by @mauvetoon.bsky.social that Forbidden Compass has hit US streaming. Apparently the intro scenes with Angel, Phoenix and Co have been cut. Honestly, I saw this coming. They tried to refocus the film on Tom and Jerry and that's hard when the plot doesn't revolve around them.

The kids make a deal with him: Play a game with them and if he loses, he has to leave Billy's pet and he has to be friends with the two of them forever... It's completely ludicrous and they still need to fine tune some parts but it sets it up so well and kids had a great time with this pilot...

"Meet The Reaper" may be rough around the edges animation-wise, looking more like an episode of Sheep In The Big City at times, but it sells the concept of the show really well. The Grim Reaper goes to claim a soon-to-be-deceased gerbil from two annoying kids.

Reminder for those sending me questions about Golden Age animation: I did the entire Looney Tunes library back in 2023. I did Disney (Mickey, Donald, Goofy et al) earlier this year and Tom and Jerry about fifty times a month. I can answer questions about those franchises at the drop of a hat!!
