If you've ridden public transit in the US, you won't have any issues. NYC is one of the safest cities in America and it's subways are above average for US public transportation. I feel much safer in NYC subways as a tourist than Minneapolis light rail as a local.

You assume the reason to add alt text is to clarify things for people without disabilities. That's like assuming curb-cuts exist so able-bodied people don't trip. Not putting alt-text in is ableist.

Why not use it? Alt-text is crucial for people with disabilities who use text-to-speech. I just set Bluesky to not let me post images without alt-text so I don't forget. I work in special ed, so this stuff is a bit more at the forefront for me. It's a way of making the internet more accessible.

All K-12 children are offered lunch. It's free for poor children nation-wide. In my state, it's free for everyone, but in most states it costs money. Quality varies by district, but Americans got fatter as school lunches got healthier.

After a big snow, some cities plow bike paths, some don't. Minnetonka plows the snow from the road INTO bike paths. This 3' tall pile is impossible to bike over with my cargo bike. Prior to the plows coming, it was slow but manageable. #BikeMN #Winterbiking #Minnetonka #Cargobike
