If you have questions about nutrition and/or movement, again in a way that isn’t rooted in diet culture, I also suggest you consider seeing a HAES aligned dietitian! There’s a lot of misinformation out there!

Oh wait one more thing: if you are in a larger body and you want to try and find healthcare providers who won’t try and suggest you lose weight before accessing healthcare, this listing is one way to find options: asdah.org/listing/

I’m not here to judge anyone for anything except for people shilling diets and supplements but I just will probably occasionally yell about how long term weight loss (outside of the body’s normal range) isn’t evidence based bc I don’t understand why this isn’t more widely accepted and shared!!!!

Doing things like moving your body more or eating a wider variety of foods can help people feel better and have improved health markers without promising something that is statistically unlikely and when it is not achieved will cause the person to stop the behaviors!

While this is the overwhelming evidence of the scientific literature, for some reason people (including health professionals) still think suggesting people pursue weight loss intentionally is a good idea, when IMO the better option is behavioral changes that CAN lead to improved health without WL.

Our bodies EVOLVED to deal with periods of less food and there’s a lot that happens to ensure that we don’t starve to death, often times including getting additional fat stores because “close call! we can’t let that happen again!”

tw: weight, diet/weight loss I’m going to get on my soapbox because this isn’t widely spread despite being very evidence based: generally speaking, people’s bodies are genetically predispositioned to a weight range. Dieting behavior is a predictor of future weight gain, not sustainable loss.

This international lesbian day, why not take a mere 30 or so hours out of your day to read my extremely concise, minimalist 550000-word Japanese-American post-post-apocalyptic lesbian weird udon western and tell me, in-depth, how much you liked it.

tw: EDs I have been in a rotation at an ED outpatient clinic for a week and I’m so grateful to be learning more about them but it is also tough to hear folks struggle with their bodies and eating and not feel some type of way about our current society

Food nerd answer- One reason is bc foods have lots of other compounds that we haven’t studied as much or are in the process of studying and they can work together in ways that we also don’t really understand! Also iron is just such a jerk about being absorbed

Per NPR: over 4M people have lost SNAP food assistance since last summer. Nationally, participation is down 11%, and bigger changes hit in October. There's no replacement for SNAP: for every meal we provide, SNAP provides nine. Get the facts: feedingamerica.org/snapfacts
A pile of red apples with green highlights surrounds a tear-out newspaper headline. The headline reads, "Over 4 million people are no longer receiving food aid amid sweeping changes to SNAP," accompanied by the NPR logo. The Feeding America logo is at the bottom.

Also to say that the heat pumps install for us was like, have contractors come for estimate (1 day per estimate) and because we had forced air heat already we didn’t need anything wild so I think it was only 1, 2 days for install? Just so you have the info! I know stubborn moms will stubborn mom

Ahh got it. Fwiw the heat pumps use a fair amt of energy on really cold days so when we changed over from 2023 to 2024 it wasn’t like a huge savings, BUT I know oil prices have changed and also our energy company had something about if you have a heat pump you get a discount on energy in winter

avidbiologist.bsky.social @avidbiologist.bsky.social · 15/09/2026
Ugh I’m sorry about the disinterest re: heat pumps! Have you had a Mass saves assessment? They can help pay for them (we had to get our house insulated first, which they also paid for).

Part of repairing my relationship with movement as a thing that makes me feel good and has a positive impact on my mental health vs a thing that I have to do as penance for having a fat body is figuring out when I avoid a work out bc I’m tired vs when I avoid it bc I’m anxious, I learned today

Today's Low Quality Ad is for this Half Assing It Pin. Can you imagine whole assing something? In this economy? No thank you. collabs.shop/1orb5r
A round enamel pin featuring a white background, gold rim, and the text "HALF ASSING IT" in blue arched across the top. Inside, an illustration shows a lower torso wearing a blue thong, split vertically: one half is solid skin-toned, while the other half is outlined with dotted lines like a diagram.
