He has enough wealth he could make this a reality for everyone in Seattle (and probably the other 3 cities where he has houses) without affecting his outrageously extravagant lifestyle in the slightest. So why would we believe this will happen if he isn’t making it happen?

the reason “AI will create so much abundance we will have a utopian society” rhetoric falls so flat is that the people building it will never, ever share their bounty unless it is taken from them and we all know it

No he doesn’t. Socialism is not about taking over businesses for personal profit. Governments seizing and directing businesses is a feature of fascism.

So, not only will it take more than 50 years to pay back the current trans mountain pipeline at the new lower rates, but 60% of that oil is going to the US so it’s not doing a whole lot to diversify. But one more pipeline will fix that right? Right?

They kind of are now. They’re anti immigration, they’re calling for cuts to public service, and slashing spending in general. QS is the left wing sovereigntist party now.

I don’t think that suggestion is being made. The suggestion is that extremists have read it as a literal call to arms in the past and it’s therefore irresponsible and dangerous to invoke this.

The irony here is that Goldstein is calling for harm to a Jew. The case for this being rodef is much stronger than against Lewis.

Ok sure. This should be fixed and it looks like it’s easy to fix and Chinese government authorities are raising the alarm. But comparing 5100 tonnes of this to 38.4 BILLION tonnes of CO2 shows that China is still doing well to electrify as much as possible.

I could cite statistics that show that it’s objectively worse now. Housing affordability, income inequality, unionization rates. But objectively worse? That would be tough to state with any true objectivity. Besides, remember how this started: pets dying in cinema. Relationship to that is unclear.

Average Rando (not) on twitter @averagerando.bsky.social · 26/09/2026
Are they “objectively worse” though? What scale are you measuring them on? I mean yes, obviously SOME people from the past had objectively worse problems than some people now. But I don’t see that as very relevant

Too often, yes. Once is too often. But is it actually common? Too often people say that anti-Zionism is defacto antisemitism. But we shouldn’t let bad actors co-opt definitions.

This is just Jennings engaging in tired old “why, when I was young people were tough” rhetoric. It’s boring and untrue. Some people age gracefully, some shake their fists at clouds.

As do people now. There is no difference. Some marketing people making a decision doesn’t change that.

In which state is that true? It isn’t, for example, in Michigan. And even if it is true in a state, what makes you think all of those people would have voted Kamala rather than voting Trump or staying home? But nice name calling. Shows how strong your argument is.

There are some but the VAST majority aren’t. Only whites voted for Trump in majority. To deny those demographics is…interesting.

Yes, but the difference is less, and the cost is still more upfront, making it harder to access. And charging infrastructure is spotty in their neighbourhoods.

Privatizing airports is a terrible deal for travellers, workers, and the public purse. Around the world, it has led to higher travel costs, fewer jobs and worse working conditions.

Ummm, you can. It takes a long time, but you can. And you can easily replace the power typically used during your workday commute/errands by charging overnight. Most cars sit in a home parking spot 12-15 hours a day.

Even low rises have the issue. In fact even many townhouse complexes have this issue. Well over half of renters have this issue. More like 70%-80% in larger cities.

At the very least, building codes should change to make charging possible/practical in new buildings.

Sure, but will landlords trust people to do it properly, or will they just see the warnings on chargers and ban it outright? A quick Google is all a landlord will do, and that says “don’t do it”.

I’m talking about right now a person making a decision about what to buy. Yes, more demand could drive prices up temporarily until new supply is found. But contrary to O&G talking points, EVs require very few truly rare materials. Lithium is very common, for example. Again: please look into it
