There are subreddits where it's hard to defend AI usage, even when it's really useful (and is used as a tool for a brain, not as a brain replacement). Some r/PowerBI posts make me think that people supposed to work with data are more prone to turning off their brains.

This is a generalisation, however, the data industry is an embarrassment. The willingness we have displayed to relinquish our knowledge, skills, and critical thinking is worrying at best, but closer to truly pathetic. I'm struggling to comprehend how bad it has become in such a short space of time.

Exciting! I have just created a bunch of AI agents and skills and they turned an SQL database into a Power BI report backed by a medallion architecture warehouse in one short prompt. Not a production-grade solution, but still an impressive experiment with the AdventureWorks2014 dummy dataset.

List of tasks the AI agents accomplish in one prompt:

- Create a new Fabric Lakehouse
- Create a database connection via an on-premises data gateway
- Create a pipeline for copying data from an on-prem SQL Server database to the Lakehouse
- Run the pipeline and copy data to the 'bronze' schema
- Create a notebook for copying data from the 'bronze' schema to the 'silver' schema
- Run the notebook and copy data to the 'silver' schema
- Create a new Fabric Warehouse
- Create a stored procedure for transforming the 'silver' schema into a star schema-based 'golden' schema (selects required tables and columns, joins tables, etc.)
- Run the stored procedure and copy data to the 'golden' schema
- Create a semantic model with a star schema
- Create a Power BI report with a few simple charts
