On Friday, I seriously broke my website, so I spent my weekend troubleshooting and didn’t have a chance to post the unboxing video, but here it is! Special editions of Sanguine Scenario arrived!

Yup, appropriate for the month! 😁 And I do feel slightly intimidated.

Now my gears are turning! (And I'm picturing something Tim Burton-esque aesthetics-wise. I blame the season!)

After some unexpected adventures, the special editions of Sanguine Scenario are here! Should I make an unboxing video?

I was considering it, but it might be too far into the "weird" territory for me to give it justice. I do like the idea of a friendly, community-driven zombies, though...

Last night, my dreams consisted of a tornado that was a large carrot girl, and cartoon zombies that were trying to find the right music to listen to in order to not die, and they were taking turns as a community. And I have no idea what to make of it.

Thank you! I was in a mood for something moody ;) , and the Silent Hill mention is a huge compliment.

October is just around the corner, so here's another spooky 3D art. As always, it was "I'll just test things out" case, but the zombie's absent expression makes me feel like I can relate to him. Because brrraaains… No AI.

In case you're wondering how my writing is going, in the nearly done first draft of my new book, I still have [namehere] for an important organization, and [insertname] for a vital location. I guess I should be happy that at least all characters have their names by now...

It's been a day (and it's not over yet), so when a large spider decided to walk on the wall right behind my PC, it didn't even elicit any strong reaction. Just a loud, "SERIOUSLY?!" and then I went to get the spray. It had no chance. Not in the mood, spider, not in the mood.

One of the things I’m infinitely grateful for is that in the morning, when the world starts rushing, I get to stand in the patio for ~15 minutes, watching the sky and clouds change as the sun rises. And sometimes, it’s a true spectacle of shapes and colors.

If you're in the northern hemisphere, autumn is finally here (and right on cue, temperatures around here dropped from 90-100s F to 70s), and that means… Does it mean more reading? Do you read more in autumn? Do you have specific rituals? Apple cider? Pumpkin latte? Cozy reading nook?

My yesterday's self spelled "biscuit" wrong and didn't have a speck of doubt about it being right. My today's self looked at it for 30 mins, seeing nothing wrong with it. Only then she got a hunch to check the dictionary and discovered the truth. A peak author form, I tell you.

Thank you so much. I appreciate the thought, really. I'll be fine eventually. Just a really rough patch. But as shown above, I have support.

He's tired. He didn't even sit down. But he still pays attention. And once he sees what I wasn't trying to show, everything becomes less important than the fact that I've likely been crying too much and something's wrong. To me, love isn't flowers on appropriate days. Love is that.

I married the right man. He comes home, tired, and after a lot of overtime and traveling. He glances at me while we say hello. Just glances and immediately asks, "Are you okay?". Before I can even respond, he says, "You are not okay." and immediately gives me full attention.

I’ve always loved the phrase, “living well is the best revenge.” Despite how it sounds, it isn't about spite; it’s about breaking free from a toxic cycle. It means taking all the energy you would have spent fighting back, and using it to build a life of peace and joy instead.

I am aware that it's just "vampire." There's nothing more to add about the image that is purely decorative. I could as well put "horror image" or "fantasy image." The value of the image is aesthetic. It carries no information that needs to be conveyed in the alt text.
100
Joanna Maciejewska @authorjmac.bsky.social · 16/09/2026
Also, alt text has limited characters, and there's no way I'd be able to accurately describe the image within it. Not to mention, that it would still be "useless" to anyone who can't actually see it except for maybe bots scraping for LLMs. So I draw the line at what's actually useful. 2/2

Joanna Maciejewska @authorjmac.bsky.social · 16/09/2026
Thank you. As for alt text, I provide it for all my images, and this one is no exception, but there's no "useful" when it comes to images that are purely aesthetic, contain no text nor additional context. "Vampire," "vampire wearing a red dress," and "vampire with guns" will be equally useless. 1/2

Continuing with the spooky theme, it's time for vampires! I had fun making this image, and I wanted it to be a little campy, with an 80s movie poster feel. No AI.

I saw an author say, "We've made it do the '…ber' months!" and that somehow made my brain jump to, "What if the months were named after my series? So here I am, presenting you 4 new month names. They kind of fit, don't they? 😆 (Yes, I cheated using the standalone title too!)

What's especially crazy to me in this sentiment (which I also had pre bluesky) is how much every other artistic field lauds indies. Indie filmmaking? Good. Indie music? Good. Indie books? Suddenly people draw a line, even though all the reasons Indie is good everywhere else *still apply*.

The way indie music is seen as 'cool' and indie films are seen as 'embracing the craft without selling out' while indie books are seen as 'didn't get trad published' gives me feelings. Really crunchy feelings. The snobbery makes zero sense and instantly tells me someone isn't worth listening to.

Star Trek Day seems like a good day to share my favorite related meme. And say what you want about the JJ Abrams's trilogy, but it did have Karl Urban as Bones (and Simon Pegg as Scotty), and he was perfect.
Screenshot of a post by dogwoodbones: Why Bones is never allowed to give the intro... Space, the final most horrible and terrifying frontier. These are the voyages of the starship Enterprise. It's 5-year mission: to explore the worst possible corners of the void, to seek out dangerous new diseases, and new civilization that want us dead. To boldly go where no fucking sane person would ever go... Damnit Jim, why the fuck are we even out here.

At the same time, he doesn't care when I listen to my music and rarely complains about what's playing (it really has to be something annoying to him), and I'm kind enough to put my headphones on when I'm in a "listen to one song in a loop for a week" phase.

He always grins when I tell him that it's a really good playlist, because I like every single song on it, and that he has a very good taste in music. It's our little joke.

My husband's and my music tastes partially overlap, but aren't a perfect match. So at some point, he went through all his music, song by song, letting me decide "yay" or "nay." All the "yays" went into a playlist, and now whenever he wants to listen to his music, he just plays "my" playlist.

I spent an hour talking to my husband about the book I'm currently writing and the "final fight" scene in it. It's great for brainstorming and ironing out the details. Result? I had something that was okay. Now I have something I love. And now all that's left is to write it.
