Caro debuts with an entertaining polyamorous pirate romance set in 1816. After the disastrous loss of his ship, Capt. Everard Anderson de Anglada is just trying to hang onto his Royal Navy career long enough to be put to shore with a pension. When he’s called to assist in a court-martial, Everard finds one former lover, Post-Capt. Preston D’Arcy, at his side as part of the court-martial panel—and another, Vitaliy Gray, in the dock, under charges that mean he’ll hang. Panicked, Everard fabricates enough evidence to contradict the charges. But Vitaliy is more than just a Marine, as Everard thought; he’s the notorious pirate V. Varfolomey, and defending him means Everard has put his own neck on the line. A grateful Vitaliy concocts a plan: should Everard become his husband and heir to his command, Vitaliy’s crew will surely accept him. But with D’Arcy joining them as they flee south, intent on rekindling things with Everard himself, and three nations and a rival pirate crew all after them, the path to a happy ending is far from smooth sailing. The quantity of double crosses and political intrigue sometimes overwhelms the love story, but the emotional and physical chemistry between the men is strong and the swashbuckling adventure is good fun. As naughty as it is nautical, this is a winner. (Self-published)

OUT TODAY! 📰✊🗽 1905 M/M historical romantic suspense about a muckraker who must investigate a reclusive, openly queer NYC businessman. Secrets; murder; intrigue; kissing in blueberry fields. Anti-capitalist journalist x marshmallow neurospicy! No compromises made. ✊ books2read.com/ByAnyMeans

the men are doing their best, folks. (this is from the upcoming sequel to R&V.) #fridayfling #romancelandia
excerpt from a&a wip:

“Hm. And we cannot shoot him,” Everard muttered, “if only for him and his government bank?”
“You couldn’t,” he teased. “Not from a distance, anyway.”
“All men deserve a fair trial,” Everard said reasonably. Preston laughed.
“What is he like?” Everard asked. “If that isn’t strange to ask. I find myself curious. There were few enough people that you… er, disclosed to me.”
None that he had ever met, no. Not besides Vee. There’d been a handful of men whom they’d met together—one of the very few ways to get Everard’s shell to crack had been to ask him to watch—but those men didn’t count. They’d been one-offs.
“I know I was a Navy man, Ever, but there aren’t many more, I swear.” Not significant ones, anyway. “When would I have had the time?”

by E.M. Caro
Spring is the ideal time of year for a salt-crusted, grog-drenched pirate romance — and Caro’s REARS & VICES (Tides & Troth, 367 pp., paperback, $18.99) was everything I wanted. Our men have some impressive Age of Sail names: Everard Anderson de Anglada is a British Navy captain on the Great Lakes who teams up with a former lieutenant, Preston D’Arcy, to rescue his sometime hookup Vitya Varfolomey from a death sentence for piracy. Their naval careers in tatters, the three sailors escape to Vitya’s outlaw fleet in the Caribbean — with Everard as Vitya’s new matelot, or legally recognized partner. This real-life form of pirate marriage ties Everard to the mysterious Russian captain, even as he reconnects with D’Arcy, whose subordinate rank had always prevented Everard from pursuing the relationship.

It’s a delicate poly romance, all simmering heat and devastating secrets — neither Navy men nor Caribbean pirates are known for forthright communication in relationships — and it unfolds amid gorgeously textured sea battles. The heeling of the ship, the deafening blast of cannon! You’d swear you could feel the bite of the wooden rails beneath your hands."

spam has gotten unfortunately good. this would nab a less online person, i feel. (all genai, obviously pulled from goodreads, but whew!)
A spam email from a "marketer," likely entirely written by genai:

"Dear E.M.,

1816. A Royal Navy officer demoted to a ten-gun schooner and a peacetime career that feels like slow disappearance. A too-handsome ex-flame reappearing with a warning. And on the court-martial docket: an infamous pirate captain and anti-colonial weapons smuggler who is, it turns out, everything Everard ever truly wished to be.

A hasty jailbreak. Philosophical debates. A pirate marriage proposal with no strings. And then, Everard and D'Arcy both commandeered to the Gulf of Mexico, where the Spanish crown looms and the question is no longer about legacy at all.

E.M., that is one of the most thrillingly constructed romantic setups I have encountered in historical fiction. Black Sails meets Hamilton in a queer, poly, spicy 19th century romance built on real history and genuine anti-colonial stakes. The K.J. Charles, Cat Sebastian, and Courtney Milan comparables tell readers exactly the standard they are walking into, and those are three of the most loyal fanbases in all of historical romance.

And 81 written reviews on a book that publishes March 17. Eleven days away. The community is not waiting. They are already here.

My name is Susan, and I am a professional book marketer who specializes in helping queer historical romance authors turn early momentum into the kind of wide, lasting readership their books deserve. I would love to be the person who takes "Rears and Vices" into its launch window with the full strategic force this extraordinary debut deserves."

Rears & Vices by E.M. Caro (March 17th)

blurb text visible: It’s 1816. The wars with France and America are over. Everard Anderson de Anglada thought he’d be a hero by now, and that it would mean something. Instead, the twenty-year Royal Navy career man sails the peacetimes Great Lakes, demoted to captain of a tiny, ten-gun schooner. When Preston D’Arcy, Everard’s former Lieutenant and too-handsome ex-flame, forewarns him about a court-martial that they have no choice but to judge, Everard is begrudgingly grateful.

the book cover has three men: an auburn-haired man, a black-haired man, and a blond man, all dressed in early 19th century clothing. The auburn-haired man is embracing the black-haired man and the blond is standing protectively by, with his hand on the hilt of a pirate sword. Cover by Thistle Arts / Jan Falk!

jeezy creezy, favorite read of the year?!?! what do i do with this. 😭😭😭 thank you, TJ!! 💖💖
from TJ Alexander's blog post: "This is IT. This is my favorite read of this year. I cannot explain how rapt I was with these polyam pirates. Frothing at the mouth at the very first mention of eighteen brass buttons on an officer’s waistcoat. Also I would die for D’Arcy, the only D’Arcy that matters imo. I said: "Full of adventure and romantic in every sense of the word, Rears and Vices delighted me from start to finish." Out March 17."

#FridayFling "crash" D'Arcy's best laid plans, et c., but it turns out *someone* maaaybe gave in to his intrusive thoughts, oops 😂 👀 book here, out March 17: emcaro.carrd.co

“Oh, no? Did he explicitly say he’d like to walk in upon us fucking, on the off chance?”
      “Well—”
“Or set a date for it? Or—no, listen—did he, in reality, walk onto a different bloody ship at the first obvious opportunity for it? Hmmm?”
“He would never walk in knowing—” Everard paused. “Ah.”
D’Arcy threw up his hands. “And thereupon we have reached it.” He stood. “I’ll fuck you even if he won’t, Ever, but I won’t manipulate him into doing so.”
“It’s not manipulation,” Everard insisted, fairly horrified. “He isn’t obliged to— The man likes proof, is all. If only he saw me—and you—”
D’Arcy looked him up and down. “And so you have it alrea—”
The door to the printing parlour crashed open.”
