When I was writing about the System in Gnomon it felt considerably more distant than this. That book came out in 2017/18 and people laughed (if nervously) at the idea of your networked washing machine spying on you for a ubiquitous AI which was just there to improve your life.

(This is in no way meant to disparage those of you who like made-up shit like fantasy football. I use pretty much all my personal time to sit around making up stories about a detective on a starship after all. BUT, to get to the point, I don't use AI for that either).

As someone who vaguely understands that football is a "sport", I came up with a rather eloquent way of getting out of fantasy leagues: "No thanks." If you need AI to make up shit for your made-up shit, it's time to question your priorities.

Howling is mandatory! I've never understood the appeal of Kid Rock, though that meme seems a good explanation. I LOVE R.L. Burnside's "A Bothered Mind" album, but I always skip the Kid Rock featured "My Name Is Robert Too". Terrible song.

Had that stuck in my head last night. Fun fact: having only ever heard it played on the radio, I long thought the titular line was "where was the thunder?" When I finally learned the true title, all the howling made a lot more sense.

The original TMNT on the NES had no save points or codes or anything. You had to play from the beginning every time. Near the end, there were several jumps and runs that had to be perfectly performed, and if you failed that was it. Start over from the very beginning. Great game.

The way I try to frame why AI is shit (other than some obvious ones), but specifically in a creative context - it steals YOUR voice/vision. Creatively, your voice, experience, vision, is all we have. So I always ask people who use it if it's worth losing that. Anyway, AI is ass.

Spider-Noir is very much a noir that just happens to have superheroes in it. I loved it and thought Cage was perfect for the role. Great performances all around, really. As others have already said, it is a fully contained story.
