Austin Gil @austingil.com · 25/09/2026As one does :) Thanks. I'll check out the issues. There is a disparity with selects where they work as I would expect. Radios and check boxes are a whole other issue. Been a fun rabbit hole to go down, but ultimately I still think JS is the solution I would lean on for 'dirty' states 010
Austin Gil @austingil.com · 25/09/2026Yeah. It also doesn't work for click in and out. I'm not doubting it was well considered, but I wish I knew the reasoning. Do you happen to? 100
Austin Gil @austingil.com · 25/09/2026Tried out the :user-valid/invalid thing, and I think there is still one thing that still needs JS. If you focus an input then blur without any keystroke, such as tabbing into and out of a required field, the JS option would work as expected, but the CSS version will not :( 110

Austin Gil @austingil.com · 21/08/2026Curious where you noticed the pros of jsdoc and the cons of TS? I never fully moved over to ts, but been considering it lately, so those would be very interesting 000
Austin Gil @austingil.com · 16/08/2026It was a moment of epiphany to realize one of the many traits that make you so good at what you do, and your work so impressive is the way in which you understand complex things quickly and thoroughly enough then communicate them simply and clearly. It was really impressive 010
Austin Gil @austingil.com · 16/08/2026I remember a conversation with you about where you described some some code I was showing using words normally used for physical, tangible things like food. It felt peculiar and intuitive at the same time, and so spot on. 100

Austin Gil @austingil.com · 28/07/2026I did volunteer work on an old nonprofit site that ran a deprecated PHP framework that did not work on modern versions and started getting errors with database versions. Updating the MySQL version required updating PHP and a new framework. We rebuilt with Node instead ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ 010
Austin Gil @austingil.com · 28/07/2026Yeah, +1 for a big, noticeable positive change when they brought you on. I've really been appreciating the results of this mash up :) 020
Austin Gil @austingil.com · 28/07/2026Familiar story. Hated going through it myself. Glad it worked out for you, and congrats on getting to the other side. Funny how a 5 minute task turns into a whole saga some days. 100
Austin Gil @austingil.com · 16/07/2026Thanks. I'm considering that option. The other is to just leave is as the YYYY-MM-DD string in the DB. It feels like the ISO dateis better, but I'm not sure how to get that without either a datetime input or client side js 001
Austin Gil @austingil.com · 16/07/2026Yeah, i considered it, but the user experience calls for date only, not time. I feel like I'm missing something obvious 100
Austin Gil @austingil.com · 16/07/2026Ugh! Wrestling with dates and timezones again. How do you store date values from users in a DB? HTML date input sends values as YYYY-MM-DD. This does not include timezones and is not ISO format. When converted to a Date object, it defaults to GMT, which means the user sees the wrong date 100

Austin Gil @austingil.com · 18/06/2026Do you write much js/ts? If so, does intellisense work? Never got mine to 100
