This is a Day 1 purchase; only waiting for one more hour as I'd also like to pick up Well Dweller based on the glowing recommendation from @theindieinformer.bsky.social Wadjet Eye Games has not missed yet, either as a developer or publisher, and this looks like an awesome RPG to lead into October.

Hi everyone, during some routine testing, my company's fire broke loose and burned three communities to the ground. No one is responsible. Fire is a great technology for keeping warm and handling certain types of evidence, so its use must remain completely unregulated.

I can confirm this game was completely hidden from me in Steam unless I searched for "Nighthawks" in the Advanced Search. Really hope Steam can reassess this. I've added it to my Wishlist now, but if I hadn't happened to see this random post, I wouldn't have known it was coming out so soon.

I forgot to follow up, but I did get this game on my Steam wishlist a bit after this post. Mystery theme + eerie, off-kilter vibes + high quality FMV looks like *exactly* my jam. But I'll definitely want to play Joni Evers first -- might do them back to back!

Really love seeing larger creators holding the line against games made through generative AI. Wanderbot has always been very clear about this, and uses his platform to share games made by people with a creative vision rather than reprocessed AI spew. Wanderbot's BlueSky: bsky.app/profile/wand...
A post on YouTube from the "Wanderbots" channel reads:

Hey everyone, I've taken down today's first video (NOT BLOOD DUNGEON) on suspicion of being heavily vibecoded- there's a chance it's legit, but after looking more at the talent tree I have serious doubts (lots of repeats with unique names + slightly changed #'s, for no reason.)

Edit: the developer did confirm that they were using AI as part of the development process, so the video will be staying down.

I have a pretty good eye for AI generated art assets, but things like UI & code are huge blindspots for me and I'm fully reliant on disclosures + developers being honest in those cases. I'll keep trying my best to avoid them all the same, but please don't be afraid to let me know if I accidentally let one through.

As for the AI boosters who will inevitably come crawling to defend slop; save us both the time and energy. It's awful tech made by awful people who stole from millions of people and I have zero interest in hearing arguments in favor of it.

Also, the name "9 to 5" was a widely accepted reference to a standard employment shift in the USA. When the movie was made in 1980, working five 8-hour shifts (9am to 5pm) was understood as making a livable wage which covered food, rent, healthcare, & common necessities. Yes, seriously.

With today's news from Sony, it feels like a good time to confirm that this 2026 playthrough of a 2016 Pokemon game was accomplished by putting the physical game cartridge I own into the physical 3DS I own. I never had to worry if a digital storefront would still honor my purchase a decade later.

I'm fairly certain that in the entire history of console games being available digitally, starting with the 360, I've purchased fewer than 10 non-physical games. The specific reason I buy console games is to retain them on physical media. I go out of my way to get them on disc whenever possible.

My favorite tidbit about Transformers: Beast Wars is that it developed such a strong emphasis on story & character development because the CGI animation of the era made splashy action sequences prohibitively expensive. So they had to come up with interesting things for the characters to talk about.

I don't know how much legendary hunting @misterbinky.bsky.social did in Pokemon Moon back when he played in 2016, but the repetition of navigating the ultra wormhole for a small chance to encounter one rare pokemon per voyage puts a real damper on it for me. Think I might be finished with this one.

This is just like how I do my writing: in order to see if the topic is worthy of my time and attention, I just copy & paste someone else's work into my document. Then, if it looks good, I move it into my traditional pipeline of mixing in some synonyms. Fans deserve nothing less.

Pokemon Sun / Moon added some legitimately great QoL improvements, like replacing HM requirements with Ride Pokemon that can just be summoned as needed. I also like that gyms were replaced by distinct challenges with boss pokemon. But man... I just don't care for the story. And they talk *so* much.

Beyond wanting to play them both very much, it's amazing to have God of War and Control, each with new protagonists, but ➡️for some reason⬅️ the cadre of self-anointed Actual Gamers is only angry about one of them. Just gives away the whole grift in the laziest, most obvious way possible.

Moral of the story: before you use AI to generate an inspirational speech and make people clap & cheer, have the prompt checked by a different AI to make sure it doesn't say "laugh & jeer." And then just deliver the speech to a chatroom of AI.

Auspicious Angel @auspiciousangel.bsky.social · 03/05/2026
That's so funny: I just asked generative AI to give me tricks of writing effective prompts then to write a book about how people can build AI into their work and then how to trick publishers hoping to chase chintzy trends into accepting "my" writing. But now I can just have it plagiarize this.

If anyone had described the premise or general plot of HBO's Rooster to me, I never would have guessed how pleasant it is to watch. Everyone is dealing with some sort of major stress that should be miserable, but they're all so weirdly well-adjusted that it's fine, actually.

The cool thing about taking a massive amount of money from people is that, when they ask what happened to all of it, you can just say, "Well, I'm not really in a retrospective state of mind right now. I'm prepping up some exciting new promises to get people to give me more money."
An expensive lesson, for some

Today, Legacy is functionally unplayable; it doesn’t even appear on the list of games on Gala Games’ website. While the players who spent thousands of dollars on Legacy land plots still technically control the associated NFTs, those crypto tokens are practically worthless without an active game to monetize them.

(Gala Games COO Mark Skaggs said in an email that the company would not be able to offer comment on specific questions sent regarding this story. A 22Cans representative told Ars that “as we work on the coming updates to our current title… the studio would rather use that time to promote Masters of Albion rather than enter into any postmortem on previous titles.”)

From the start, Gala Games has been careful not to describe purchases of its tokens and NFTs as an investment.

I truly think the decision to remove PvP in favor of focusing on single player and co-op will be a huge benefit. Beyond my personal taste: the tighter scope will make it easier to balance and remove a lot of community impact from cheaters. I'm very hopeful it turns out well!

I've recently been playing Star Trek Voyager: Across the Unknown. Outside of some brief narration to kick off each chapter, there is no voice acting in the game. And I'm still enjoying it very much! If it used AI-generated voices to mimic actors, I would not have played it at all.

As usual with Game Informer, this is an excellent review. It clearly presents Madsen's experience, using specific (but non-spoiler) examples illustrate how they affected the journey. This is so, so valuable in helping each reader assess whether this game will hit the right pace for them. Well done!
An excerpt from Hayes Madsen's review of Crimson Desert, as published by Game Informer.

It reads, "For example, early in the game, you take a quest to learn how to dye clothes, following an ally to the shop, and then learning that they moved the cauldron you need to the city. You go to the city and use the cauldron, but then have to travel all the way back to the shop to use the dye. A quest that could have quickly been over in a matter of minutes ended up taking me 15, and that’s not an isolated incident – as that kind of design is spread across the entire game."

Brian is always so kind and optimistic, able to see the best in things. But I wonder if he's considering what DLSS 5 can bring to AA and indie games.
A picture of the pixel art adventure game Kathy Rain 2, in which a red haired woman is talking about something. DLSS 5 is off so she looks very pixelated, almost as if she were a character in a game with a carefully considered art style meant to evoke adventure games from the mid-1990's -- the same era as the setting for Kathy Rain 2.A picture of the pixel art adventure game Kathy Rain 2, in which a red haired woman is talking about things that are very interesting, intelligent, and funny. DLSS 5 is on so she looks better than before that technology was introduced: she now has long, flowing red hair, perfect makeup, and no longer needs glasses since some testers reported that made her come across as "bookish." Her expression is more serene, as she no longer has anything to feel stressed or concerned about. DLSS 5 has made everything okay. It's fine.
