I’ve lived in Athens for 20 years. That’s wild to me. (I am looking at photos from 2006)

Things have been not great this week but there’s a ton of new Physical 100 for me to watch so I’ll be okay I think.

I have an ancient history with R.E.M. but had no interest in seeing the Shannon/Narducy tribute, until it came to Detroit & went to try to figure out what was going on, for my @salon.com column: www.salon.com/2026/10/07/m...

Michael Shannon’s R.E.M. tribute reminded me why I love the band

The actor’s show with Jason Narducy is more than nostalgia — it celebrates the band’s artistry.

I don’t host at home because the elderly cat hates it. Also my house is small.

Counterpoint: I can summon 8-30 people to play cards every Sunday and Wednesday but it took four years of consistency and also two other people to share the planning with.

Gradykat did very well for a checkup with her vet today. Arthritis is steady and her back pain will be under control soon. A perfect bean

There are, in fact, situations in which we do *not* want creators to get a veto over how their works get used. It's all over the law. Can't veto your book getting put in a library, or on a curriculum. Can't veto it being quoted for criticism. Can't veto it being mocked or parodied.

I also feel really weird when I tell people I’ve been writing at AMJ for nearly 20 years and their first reaction is to ask how much money I make off it. Like…Nothing. I’ve spent more than I ever made. I write because it’s painful not to.

AthensMusicJunkie @athensmusicjunkie.com · 05/10/2026

It’s so wild to me. I could never be like that. I just spent a long time working on a project that may not come to fruition but it was my work. My writing. I felt the compulsion to write and so I did. I will never understand

I’m trying to be kind because they are young but I would rather them hear it from me than someone who will grind them into powder unnecessarily. They’re fine! Better than bad. But the truth feels like an unfair weight at that age. I get it. I wish them luck and a bit more sense.

011

AthensMusicJunkie @athensmusicjunkie.com · 02/10/2026

Most music is just okay. That’s fine! By definition an average must exist! I am just one person with limited time and space so I’m gonna go my way and you go yours! I’m irrelevant! I’m not going to be the one to make you so please don’t let me be the one to break you.

110

AthensMusicJunkie @athensmusicjunkie.com · 02/10/2026

Brought to you by a band constantly asking why I haven’t covered their music and my answer of “you’re not local????” not being enough. So they got the “youre just okay and that’s okay but I’d rather spend my time talking about someone really good” talk. And that didn’t land well 🙃

AthensMusicJunkie @athensmusicjunkie.com · 02/10/2026

For better or worse if you ask my opinion on something I will happily supply it. I’m not a jerk about it, I’m not overly soft about it either. There‘s a reason I ask if you’re sure though because I will not shut up once prompted.

It’d be real cash money if the high didn’t get into the 80s again for the rest of the month. Or even year ideally. That would be rad.

Fishing for some help here but what music videos do yall remember feature the band’s management? I’ve got R.E.M., U2, and MCR already but I’ll admit my knowledge basically stops there when it comes to music videos.

Hearts up, beloveds. It’s spooky season. May the evils of men be their own undoing. May the souls of the hopeful find peace. And may your version of the divine find you in the smallest of things every day.
