@trederia.bsky.social Hi, who wrote the music for Super Video Golf? Incredible work, one of the best soundtracks I've heard all year.

This is Jerry Lawson. He invented the video game cartridge for the Fairchild Channel F system. Because of his invention, many consoles had cartridges and CD formats and would become the norm. The Atari 2600, NES, Genesis, and many consoles wouldn't exist without him. Happy Black History Month.

The point is so thin that it doesn’t feel like 2.5 at all, or anything close. The shape feels more different than the thickness itself.

Trying JTC 2.5mm picks because Reo from lynch. plays them. I don’t like these thin points on lead stuff but it feels great on rhythm.

It’s hard to play the guitar on the days when FMS targets my hands…

I’ve used an Empress buffer/junction box ever since I started using outboard gear, but only the input is buffered, which is inconvenient. So I’m replacing w/a MusicomLAB System Interface, which has an output buffer as well as a switch to turn the input buffer off. Korea makes great stuff. :)

I didn't care much for REBORN when I first heard it, but it's really grown on me after many listens... I keep getting pulled back to it. #lynch #vkei

I typically record with a Kemper, but I picked this up for some live shows and decided to use it in some recent recordings. The 5150 isn’t my favorite amp but it fits really well in a mix.

The Twin was good enough for Tomo Fujita so that’s enough of an endorsement for me

No MIDI control but has a send-return or stereo option if you want. I also have the Ruby (Vox) which is great. Tonally they’re the best hardware amp sims available IMO.

Joshua Taipale @atelierjoshua.co · 19/01/2025
Sounds like a 5150 for sure. Great sound for those who like it. Not my fav amp but undeniably useful for certain mixes. Functionally it does pretty much everything you need on the surface. Some additional features in an app but the kinds of features you’re not likely to adjust frequently.

Also, turn the bass knob down depending on the amp.

How to get heavy guitar tones when tuning low: It’s a simple deduction. You use solo boosts because you don’t have enough gain on the thinner strings. You need less gain on the thicker, lower strings. So the lower you go, the more you reduce the gain. That’s all you need to do.

7-string + Morley Wah sounds for work tonight… :) Never thought my 7 would be a “lead” instrument for me, but it’s so comfortable to play after slamming the string action low down.

Not keen on every gear submission being run through AI to "improve" the submission text either.

Joshua Taipale @atelierjoshua.co · 15/01/2025
Equipboard is completely outdated. It's 2025; we don't need every addition of new gear to be personally verified by a small team of moderators who don't check the submissions anyways.

I can attest to this. My guitar recordings improved significantly after switching from plugins to outboard gear — not because it sounded better, but because it made me more conscious of how guitar tone “works” and how to get what I was after. It’s a lot more inspiring than loading up plugins too.

I detest the worldview of those who push AI in creative spaces, but this post implies Patti shares Shulman’s views. I don’t think you should crop it like that.

Game recording job tonight. Getting asked to play my 7-string for work more and more. :) I recently strung it with S.I.T. 10-58s. Sounding and feeling good.

... to beg the world to stop laughing, don't laugh at me, don't laugh, don't laugh. It's a beautiful, painful, and deeply relatable album best experienced in its entirety, from start to finish. (3/3)

Reaching a head in "Last Song", Hyde sings about choosing to flourish despite these struggles, when and where he can, "if I feel loved". But as the song reaches a close... he suddenly breaks out in the soaring voice I've always known him to have — the only time on the album... (2/3)

HYDE [INSIDE] On the surface, it's a metal album by a veteran J-Rock vocalist not known for such heavy music, shouting and screaming in ways I never knew he could. Underneath, it's a deeply moving album about feeling alien, sick in a world whose ways and values increasingly oppose your own. (1/3)

Composing for @partagames.bsky.social tonight… I picked up a Zoom MS-70CDR+ as a compact post-FX solution but it feels so good to play through I’m using it on recordings lately. Great sound and easy to use.

Lots more nuance to this topic that I can’t feasibly cover in microblog format. But I think it’s worth thinking about.

An important part of this realization for me was understanding why people respond with disgust to clichés — not boredom, *disgust*. It’s not that the ideas are overused, but that they’re often used as shortcuts when the artist doesn’t know how to or doesn’t want to be honest with themselves.

This is surprisingly hard to do. You can’t exactly trust your instincts, because your instincts lie to you to protect you. My best music was written when I denied my instincts and wrote what was hard. You might cringe at what you write, and it might be that that’s exactly what you should write.

For months, I thought hard about what it could mean for a song to be objectively “good”. The real answer is, of course, that there is no answer. But the conclusion I reached was that the closest thing to “objectively good” was “honest”. A song that reveals the artist’s feelings and perspectives.

Was doing sidequests in FFXIV because I wasn't feeling well enough to do much of anything else. Stumbled across this quest and was moved by it. Living with fibromyalgia for five years now, I've explained it to others with the last sentence here word-for-word.
