I find it is the most flexible model at least to KS4. Assuming your last example is 1/(2x) +2/3=1/6: the dominant operation is +; inverse yields 1/(2x) = -3/6. dom op is now division; inverse yields 1=2x [times] (-3/6); simplifying: 1=-x; dom op is now multiplication, inverse yields x=-1.

Things I hate as a teacher: #1 - people coming into my room saying "can I borrow X for a minute?" Actually no X is in this room because he or she needs to learn this maths, please wait for them outside at the end of the lesson and stop interupting me. But I'm not allowed to say that. #MathsToday

Maths teachers! If you are teaching linear equations to year 7, teach them to identify the dominant operation method. It is the only reliable method which doesn't produce serious pedagogical debt: www.youtube.com/watch?v=PAqx... Lesson 1: www.tes.com/teaching-res...

It used to be common (and accepted) for parents to go to job interviews with, or even on behalf of, their school leaver children. This is no different. They are still very young and it's not wrong for parents to help out.

Once that's fixed we need to do something about seasonal hiring patterns. It's just not acceptable to hire the same people every spring and sack them every autumn. Employers must take year-round responsibility for their employees.

How will your school respond to iron deficiency this year? If you're a maths teacher in an area of deprivation it is practically certain that multiple people in your classes will be unable to concentrate on maths because of it. #edusky #mathschat

If your response to the Athena scandal is to chalk it up as one failed trust, you need to think again. Athena happened because the MAT became unaccountable to both parents and teachers. In the end, the only way they could change it was to destroy it. All schools need boards of governors again.
000
A Teacher Type Resources @ateachertype.bsky.social · 10/08/2026
We need parents, teachers, and communities back in the driving seat in our schools. Not 'advisory groups' or such rubbish. The MAT needs to propose: stakeholders need to decide. Why should a distant CEO whose never met your kids or their teachers decide your school policy? #deacademise

A Teacher Type Resources @ateachertype.bsky.social · 10/08/2026
Athena? If neither parents nor teachers have power to shape policy at a school, there is a serious governance problem. Major stakeholders should not be forced to campaign and ultimately destroy an organisation just to effect change. Stakeholders should be those making school policy, not fighting it.

Multi academy trusts are badly broken. There is already a Labour government report which explains why, and sets out how to fix it. Starts with returning power to stakeholders. Link below; FYI: @andyburnham.bsky.social @lucympowell.bsky.social @instituteforgovernment.org.uk

Education reform priorities: 1) Restore and fully re-empower school governors < URGENT 2) Put an Ofsted rep on every governing body, to provide long term guidance not one off judgement 3) Cap staff:student ratios to 16 (i.e. teacher + TA for 32 students)
000
A Teacher Type Resources @ateachertype.bsky.social · 21/07/2026
Today, the law actually prohibits both parents and teachers from being trustees of MATs. "Local governing bodies" are merely advisory, with no actual power. This governance failure is ultimately what is leading to the imminent collapse of Athena Learning Trust: all stakeholders are disenfranchised.

Uncomfortable school truths #6: In a quintile 1 area, about 3 in 10 teenage girls are so iron deficient that it likely impacts their concentration, mood, and energy; and 6-8% are clinically anemic (triangulated data). This hits behaviour and progress - but it is totally ignored.

I see your point from a purely theoretical position. I include them for three main reasons: 1) They pick up the parenthesis priority in OOO 2) They become visible when you manipulate, e.g. \fract{a}{b+1}=c --> a=c(b+1) 3) I know that students missing this is a big cause of errors
