¿What? y digo yo ¿No sería más natural modificar *la que no está hecha todavía* para que encaje con la anterior? Parece más fácil...

They do, and they go back to reviewers that reply quickly, and that send reviews on time. Good work is rewarded with more work.

Google finally updated some of its satellite images of Gaza and my god, it's horrific. The entirety of Rafah has been demolished. The majority of Khan Younis is in ruins. Entire towns completely leveled and erased of the map.

In both cases there's even aliens coming to catch the creatures. After watching the movie I read that very early in its conception, Lilo & Stitch was going to happen in Kansas... same as the other movie about furry small rolling chaotic space fugitives

On a fun note, It made me remember that i had watched another movie about small destructive aliens that escape custody, hijack a spaceship and land on a small community on earth. Both even roll!

It was David F. Gray, and I love the "controversy". From presenting evidence that the claimed planetary signal was most likely stellar activity, to looking for a mechanism to explain that activity, to droping the claim based on new evidence and admitting that the planet was the most likely scenario

Es imposible. El mismo esfuerzo para hacer públicos los resultados y datos utilizados para otros investigadores y el público general, se los hace públicos a las empresas. Es imposible abrir a unos y limitar a otros.

As both an academic and a writer, I am repelled by the "this looks like a long document. Would you like me to summarize it for you?" that seems to appear at the top of every pdf viewer now. NO. The *entire point* of good writing (either books or journal papers) is that every sentence has a purpose.

I was told yesterday by a senior scientist in Spain that I was wrong. 2002 was just a small correction in the text. The actual amounts have been frozen since 1998, before the euro was introduced.

For domestic trips, the housing limit is 68€ per night, which used to pay a 4* hotel in Madrid in 2002, but now doesn't cover the cost of a hostel.
020
A. Suárez Mascareño @asuarezmascareno.com · 03/09/2026
In some countries, it's not difficult to get into a situation in which a 1000€ registration will be paid, a 2000€ flight will be paid, a 200€ taxi will be reinbursed, but a 100€ per night hotel won't be reinbursed in full. Make it make sense.
120
A. Suárez Mascareño @asuarezmascareno.com · 03/09/2026
In addition, it all works in a very incoherent way. We have no cap in flight costs, no cap in conference registration, and a 2002 cap in housing costs and meals.
120
A. Suárez Mascareño @asuarezmascareno.com · 03/09/2026
This is quite low in the rank of issues of science/academia/society nowadays, but is kind of insane that the maximum amount of money to be reinbursed per day during work trips has been frozen since 2002 in Spain. Now, it's mostly impossible to go to a conference without paying from our own pocket.

The ending doesn't really work from the point of view of the allegory (thought I think it does from the purely emotional point of view) and muddles things, but the majority of the movie seems very on point.

So... like two weeks ago I watched Kpop Demon Hunters and it was a fun movie with very catchy songs... and since then I haven't stopped thinking about it. It's not just that I cannot take its songs out of my head, but I also can't stop thinking about its (imperfect) powerful and explicit allegory

Here is the full chart with labeled axes. It is comparing homework scores to test scores. Below-average and average scorers for homework and exams appear at about the same frequency regardless of AI usage. The high homework scorers using AI, however, are not replicating that success at test time.

Garfield was right, Mondays are the worst! Papers appearing in the long Monday arXiv postings seem to be cited less Have a read of "Which is the best day of the week to submit to arXiv:astro-ph?" while enjoying some lasagne arxiv.org/abs/2608.11268 ☄️
Which is the best day of the week to submit to arXiv:astro-ph?

Chirag Sharma, Shantanu Desai

We examine whether the citations received by refereed astronomy papers vary systematically with the day of the week of their arXiv preprint release. We use NASA ADS citation data for all refereed articles published in 2020-2023 in six journals (MNRAS, ApJ, ApIL, ApJS, AGA and ICAP; 37,173 papers with astro-ph primary preprints), combined with version-1 submission timestamps from the arXiv API. We group papers both by submission weekday and by the day their announcement batch appears on arXiv, accounting for arXiv's weekday deadline and lack of weekend announcements. Given the heavy skew of citation distributions, our primary statistic is the median citations per group, with bootstrap confidence intervals. Papers Submitted on weekends, all of which appear in the Monday listing, have median citations Significantly lower than weekday submissions in five of the six journals, by 12-26%; the sixth (JCAP) shows the same direction, but not significantly, consistent with ts small weekend sample. Median citations are indistinguishable across the five weekdays. These results extend the recent reported weekend citation disadvantage in particle and nuclear physics to astronomy. The link is correlational, consistent with either compositional variations in weekend
Submissions of reduced visibility in the enlarged Monday listings.
