Every movie, song, and book that you love was made without the technology that people who don’t make art are now insisting is necessary for making art.

reference not only helps with foundational skills, but will expand the visual library you pull from when it comes to what you actually draw. this is why being curious is key to becoming a better artist, especially when diving into the fantastical and unreal

Use reference. I’m serious. I get it that somehow you or someone convinced you that using reference is “cheating.” It’s not. You are just hindering yourself.

I offered some advice that seemed to help a lot of writers on tumblr, so I'll offer it here too: your best bet is prolly to just write the thing the way you want and let the reader be responsible for their own media literacy

I go into the dark forest. There is a well. I drop my wallet in it. Some months later, when I return, there is a picture of a fat dragon with an absolutely massive hog etched into the stone. I wrench the brick out and carry it home. This is a good system.

People with money and power, who profit off of you want you dependent. Unable to think, addicted to convenience, adverse to friction, funneled into subscription, no ownership. Each cheap thrill making it more difficult to reclaim your independence. Do something with your own hands, your mind.

Too many times to count lol It's easy to say block and ignore those who make you feel bad, but when the entire fandom is teeming with annoying people who go out of their way to be annoying, avoidance becomes impossible.

I'm still in pre-con stress, but after months of sourcing materials, waiting for merch to arrive and fighting my brain for motivation, my Dancing Green ita bag is finally finished 🥹 The pic doesn't do it justice, it's so gaudy and sparkly and colorful, I LOVE it 🤣 🔻Artists in replies 🔻

my sister uses it extensively, on many things including to ask what to feed her two less than two years old children, and mom says she finds it stupid but also still uses it and has previously claimed "it's smart" i'm this 👌 close to disowning

If artists learn anything from the darkness that is genAI i hope it’s that it’s very easy to credit those that inspire you and not strip away information from what inspires you and celebrate it. Your better then a prompter after all.

Elden Ring. I'm generally interested in the overall lore, but you couldn't get me to play ever again. Initially I played about two hours total before running into graphics issues, but by then Steam wouldn't refund me anymore. So I kept playing another few hours but it really wasn't sticking with me.

i hate how much people care about their ships being "canon" now. spirk fans didn't publish zines full of fanfics in the 70s only for modern fandom to grovel at the knees of corporations and beg for things to be canon. use your imaginations, don't allow billionaires to think for you.

I have been yowling this for so long. Fandom is built on the backs of slash zines that struggled to exist at all and we repay that with petty squabbles, throwing stones about dynamics and forgetting that you don’t need something to be canon to be good. Thats why its called FANFICTION

So, we need to talk about webtoons(the company) has done to webcomics Over the past 7 or so years, we've seen this absolute shift in expectation, migration, and stagnation in the webcomics sphere which applies to style, sustainability, and the platforms grip on readers and creators
