Today we had the pleasure of hosting Francis Zong Lang from the University of Bern who gave a seminar about detecting terrestrial sized planets around M stars and even brown dwarfs! He also talked about how he is using his astrophysics skills to help inspire communities in Nigeria and Cameroon!

The amount of exoplanet papers released every day is very overwhelming. When I started my PhD you’d maybe see one or two a day on the arxiv, now there are 10 a day.

I learned how to do some data reduction and looked at my data to see if we had a successful observation and we did! Panic over! Now back to writing funding applications so I can stay in my job to work on my observations.

My studio in an HMO hasn’t cooled down since the last heatwave. I’m certain the temperature and lack of sleep is causing frequent flare ups of some of my health conditions. It’s really a matter of health and safety that I find somewhere to live that has air conditioning.

Attended the last-minute @ukri.org STFC town hall about their damaging and potentially industry-destroying budget cuts to physics. Barely a mention of astronomy. My questions in the Q&A were ignored. Seems like all the issues are about estates and facilities that do not concern astronomy research.
