I am amazed that there is so much goodness in the very short title song! I find something so inspiring in tiny, perfect songs like that

"Highly accepted" is such a funny choice there, protesting too much in just two words!

Every year, I write a Halloween story on fallen leaves and post photos of them, a sentence at a time, on my blog. The story will conclude on All Hallow's Eve. The first installment of AUTUMN'S END is up at: floggingbabel.blogspot.com/2026/10/autu...

This serves as advertisement for Alex Gibney’s documentary, Musk, opening October 9. Pass it on.

YouTube, TikTok and Meta have all turned down the trailer for the Oct. 9 doc, citing “political” content. X won't even take Bleecker Street's calls. The distributor is appealing.

At the reading last night, performing some of my new piece "Welcome to Cloke!"
Small stage with chair, mic, and speakers, before a wall of displayed books. I am standing there frowning, holding some notecards, and wearing a wrinkled green asymmetrical smock-like garment.

In a career first, I have just sewed a thematically appropriate custom garment which I will be wearing at the reading.

Bill Orcutt is amazingly awesome! He has huge amounts of material, but a good starting place I'd say is the album "Orcutt Shelley Miller." Also Cyrus Pireh. Album rec: "Thank You, Guitar."

The last novel I read featured an art gallery scene! (It was a good scene, the main character had paid a society caricaturist to do a sketch of her, then gone on purpose to discover it accidentally at the gallery)

It's the birthday of two men, both born in Detroit, who have been singularly committed, in utterly different ways, to their arts. Happy birthday to Thomas Ligotti and Jack White.
Black and white photo of a man standing in silhousette at a door apparently at the top of a staircase. Bright white outside, dark inside. This is, reportedly, Thomas Ligotti.Cover of Jack White's album "Acoustic Recordings 1998-2016", which is excellent. As much as I like Jack's music (and I do), it's his creation of Third Man Records and, especially, Third Man Books that has changed my life in so many positive ways. (I have the gobsmacking honor of having published the first book from TMB labeled as Horror.)

Hear, hear! My favorite snippets of prose, the ones I remember forever, all involve adverbs or adjectives. John Banville's Kepler mentions the "goitrous blare of a hunting horn" -- Such a brilliant word choice, that "goitrous"!
