Last year I made 2 lemon pigs on NYE, which I've decided to credit for our scientifically improbable good fortune of conceiving double babies 😆 It's now time for them to retire, and I didn't happen to have any lemons so... lime pig for 2026, curious to see what good fortune it brings us this time ❤️

Photo of two lemon pigs (lemons made to look like pigs with toothpick legs, clove eyes, and a quarter stuffed in their mouths).

Photo of the same two lemon pigs, now dried out, and a new pig made from a lime in front.

KIRAN: Alex, wait! You don't have to do this. Let me—
CASEY: Fuck off, Kiran.

Panel 1: Inside the house. David has opened the door, he’s holding a phone on his hand. On the other side, Kiran is trying to step in front Casey while she’s speaking to David. Casey is frozen and looking directly at Logan who is on the foreground. Logan is holding her phone, on the screen can faintly be seen a contact called “Mom”.

DAVID: Casey? Where the hell is—
KIRAN: David Woods? I'm Kiran Estevez of the FBC. Can we come in?

Panel 2: A memorial service held outdoors. All seats have been taken by attendants.
In the center is a portrait picture of Saga.

@evil-owl-loki.bsky.social also blew me away by taking really simple ideas (Casey and Saga watching Night Springs with Logan, the Bright Falls PD having a BBQ) and adding so much gorgeous detail to create these really complex scenes that are so fun to color in.

Black and white drawing of Alan Wake 2 characters. Alex Casey sits on a couch braiding Logan Anderson's hair. Saga Anderson sits on the couch watching and drinking a cup of coffee. The television showing Night Springs is in the background along with woodland and deer decor, plants, and coffee cups.

Black and white drawing of Alan Wake 2 characters. Tim Breaker is in the foreground grilling burgers and hot dogs with an apron that says "KISS THE CHEF." In the back Mulligan holds up a ball and gestures towards Thornton, who is sitting in a dunk tank looking wet and miserable. A banner that says "Bright Falls PD Community Outreach BBQ" hangs above them.

I loved one of the options we didn't go with so much that we ended up turning it into a coloring book page with Jesse and Dylan.

Black and white drawing by @marms.art of Jesse and Dylan Faden. They are reaching towards each other as they fall through the sky, surrounded by sheets of paper and various Altered Items and Objects of Power. Three grids are in the background.

astral_dyke @astraldyke.bsky.social · 10/09/2025

And possibly my favorite magic trick, @marms.art took this absurd list of "vibes" I sent, gave me 4 different options that all pretty much nailed it, and then made the beautiful final cover art which I never get tired of looking at ❤️

Screenshot of an e-mail that says:

" Since it's the cover this would be a full color piece. I don't have a solid idea right now, just vibes. Like I want it colorful and campy, maybe even a little girlypop (I have the barest understanding of what that word even means but it feels right)... but also it's Remedy so it's a little dark and scary and weird too.
Jesse Faden needed to take a break from filming to do a movie so they had to write an episode of Control that stars Emily Pope instead and this is what the world looks like from her perspective where she's the main character.
Emily got to have a slumber party for her birthday and all her friends showed up and stayed up all night with her partying and eating cake. But it's Emily's idea of an ideal party so there's also science and puzzles and weird paranormal shit that might kill them.
Emily had a fever dream and in it she became a world famous popstar and she's so nervous because she invited her crush to her concert tonight and she said she might show up and also there's been this ominous black pyramid that keeps appearing above the stage every time she performs making disgruntled noises?? But that's kind of interesting too tho so she's not mad at it.
Emily is watching the mandatory safety videos they're required to review every year at the FBC and she's daydreaming about how she'd dramatically save Jesse's life in the event of a lab accident.
None of this is meant to be taken as literal things I want on the cover I'm just sharing images that come to mind when I think of the name "Emily Pope's Big Puzzle Adventure" to give an idea of the vibes 😂

I understand this is infuriatingly vague. I guess what I'm boiling it down to is:

- I need a full color 8.5 x 11" inch cover design. Included on the art would be the title of the book.
- Emily Pope deserves to have main character energy as a little treat."

Four thumbnail sketches of different cover designs for the book "Emily Pope's Big Puzzle Adventure Starring Emily Pope."

Cover art by bluesky user @marms.art for a coloring and activity book with the title "Emily Pope's Big Puzzle Adventure starring Emily Pope!". The cover depicts Emily Pope laying on the ground working on a crossword puzzle. Her pencil has a fuzzy pink pencil topper. Near her there is a red telephone, nail polish bottles, a memo pad, pens, and a cup of coffee in an FBC mug. There is an ominous red mist behind her.

Always amazed by how artists can turn the crudest reference images and poor sketches into perfection. Here's another favorite, the initial idea for the "Emily explains it all" image, the adorable drawing @marms.art made from it, and then how it finally appeared in the book.

Crude pencil sketch of Emily Pope holding her clipboard and gesturing towards a rectangular shape with a pen. The rectangular shape says "PUZZLE NAME - Rules for puzzle go here."

Black and white drawing of Emily Pope. She is holding a clipboard and gesturing towards a blank marker board behind her with a pen.

A lineart drawing of Emily Pope holding a clipboard and gesturing towards a marker board behind her with a pen. The top of the marker board says "NO THREE IN LINE" and there is text on the marker board that says:

"Agent Estevez is stuck in an unfamiliar corridor of the
Oceanview Motel - help her see the patterns to
escape.

Place either a spiral or triangle into each empty square,
so that no three consecutive squares in either a
horizontal row or vertical column contain more
than two of the same symbol.

There needs to be as many spirals as triangles in
every row and column."

I was cleaning my office and found this envelope sketch from when I was working on the activity book, and thought it would be fun to share... the initial stick figure doodle to figure out layout, the reference I sent the artist, and the final page with gorgeous art by @katserest.bsky.social

Poorly drawn stick figure sketches of a person picking up a piece of paper. In the background are people talking and a man on a typewriter in front of an inverted pyramid.

A screenshot of Central Executive from the video game Control, with a few stick figures drawn on top. A stick figure of Emily Pope picks up a piece of paper in the foreground, a "!" above her head indicating excitement. In the back a stick figure of Jesse Faden watches with a "?" indicating curiosity, while a stick figure of Raya Underhill points angrily at a document. A black and white inverted pyramid hangs overhead with some "lorem ipsum" text on top.

Black and white drawing of Emily Pope crouching on the ground looking at a piece of paper. In the background Jesse Faden stands in front of the entrance to the Board Room watching curiously, while Raya Underhill argues with her. There is an inverted pyramid above Emily with text overlaid on it that says:

"Emily Pope crouched to inspect the paper on the ground. The sudden appearance of random objects was always a source of both concern and intrigue for an FBC researcher - and intrigue generally prevailed in the end.

A manuscript page describing someone in distress, frustrated by a seemingly unsolvable puzzle. Hands shaking with excitement, she retrieved a scrap of paper from her clipboard. A matching puzzle, found that morning.

There were no coincidences in the Oldest House. Flourishing her pencil, Emily got to work."
