O "jeu de paume" (jogo de palma) é um esporte criado na Idade Média. A ilustração explica quase tudo, menos isso: ao lançar a bola, os jogadores gritavam "tenez!" (toma!), (em francês antigo, o z era pronunciado) Esse "tenez", distorcido e apropriado, virou nome da versão moderna do esporte: tenis.
