Neural geometry in the human hippocampus enables generalization across spatial position and gaze
Chericoni et al. show that neurons in the human hippocampus track the positions of multiple agents in a simple pursuit-based video game. They identified place codes for each agent and for gaze. The codes were systematically related in a way that allowed generalization while preserving the ability to differentiate.

Neural basis of compositional control - Nature
Behaviour of human participants in a prey-pursuit task reflects dynamic blending of goal-specific control policies, with hippocampus estimating latent states, anterior cingulate cortex orchestrating policy switches and orbitofrontal cortex supplying value-based contextualization rather than driving continuous policy updating.

For many bilingual people, switching between languages feels effortless. Now, scientists have figured out how bilingual brains accomplish this feat at the single neuron level. spkl.io/633297EUXJ Xinyuan Yan, Benjamin, Y. Hayden, @sameershethmd.bsky.social & colleagues @cp-cell.bsky.social

Independent Continuous Tracking of Multiple Agents in the Human Hippocampus
The pursuit of fleeing prey is a core element of many species behavioral repertoires. It poses the difficult problem of continuous tracking of multiple agents, including both self and others. To under...
