Aspect Forestry and Rural Management @aspectforest.bsky.social · 16hThat’s most odd. All the FL applications I do have to mapped as part of the online process. Even if it was large individual trees in question there should still be an area calculation. 100
Aspect Forestry and Rural Management @aspectforest.bsky.social · 02/10/2026This is a fantastic, balanced piece written by Cat. Please give it a read. I may be in forestry but all of my clients are landowners and farmers. They would have all had an experience with SFI over the last couple of weeks. The knock on effects are felt across the rural sector. 030
Aspect Forestry and Rural Management @aspectforest.bsky.social · 30/09/2026A lot has been said on social media today about new tree planting after the government announcement. Most of what has been said has been utter nonsense. I’m not engaging. I’ll keep my head down and carry on managing these multifunctional woodlands for the future. 030
Aspect Forestry and Rural Management @aspectforest.bsky.social · 28/09/2026Enjoy. I’m rather jealous. 010
Aspect Forestry and Rural Management @aspectforest.bsky.social · 28/09/2026It’s a long time since I last climbed up there but what a cracking spot! Looks like you had a good day for it. 110
Aspect Forestry and Rural Management @aspectforest.bsky.social · 28/09/2026How is this news? “A Tree species that is renowned for coppicing well has produced coppice regrowth” Well blow me down with a feather. Really BBC there are so much more important forestry and tree related items to report on. 040

Aspect Forestry and Rural Management @aspectforest.bsky.social · 25/09/2026It was a really enjoyable day spent at the the APF show yesterday. Caught up with a good number of friends old and new and discussed ideas for possible machinery changes. I was also rather proud to have a machine on display, my Kronos trailer. @Forestry_UK 060

Aspect Forestry and Rural Management @aspectforest.bsky.social · 22/09/2026I’ve spent the day at the Southill Estate in Bedfordshire with the RFS. What an interesting and thought provoking project. Landscape scale conservation management, reintroductions, beavers and forestry. Many thanks to Charles Whitbread and the team. 061

Aspect Forestry and Rural Management @aspectforest.bsky.social · 21/09/2026Intake no pleasure in using Diesel but at the moment there is absolutely no alternative. For this type of machinery in the future this may change. However we do harvest timber - one of the most sustainable construction materials available. 100
Aspect Forestry and Rural Management @aspectforest.bsky.social · 21/09/2026Well, the forwarder has had a bath and tidy up today as it’s off to the APF forestry show at Ragley Hall this week. It will be used as a demonstration machine on the Jas P Wilson stand. I’m going Thursday if anyone else is also there. 040
Aspect Forestry and Rural Management @aspectforest.bsky.social · 20/09/2026I said that…..and a few other words! 010
Aspect Forestry and Rural Management @aspectforest.bsky.social · 20/09/2026I had a diesel delivery this week as I do nearly every other week. Checked the paper work this morning…..1.28 litre! In July it was just over 70p. I’ve never paid as much for red diesel as this. It’s a huge problem but what do you do? 260
Aspect Forestry and Rural Management @aspectforest.bsky.social · 17/09/2026I listened to the podcast this morning. A really engaging and thought provoking listen. There is still a lot of work to do but it’s a positive start. For those of us working in the industry I have my fingers crossed for the major changes that are needed. 040
Aspect Forestry and Rural Management @aspectforest.bsky.social · 15/09/2026There is a tidal wave of negativity across social media at the moment so as an antidote here’s a picture of the machines on my current site. Harvesting timber and carrying out nature conservation work. #positiveforestry 061

Aspect Forestry and Rural Management @aspectforest.bsky.social · 07/09/2026It’s all infected with ash dieback (Hymenoscyphus fraxineus) A lot of the timber is dead and already subject to insect and worm infestation as well as some dry rot. Unfortunately it’s only suitable for firewood or biomass chip. 100
Aspect Forestry and Rural Management @aspectforest.bsky.social · 07/09/2026As ever we are really busy at the moment. Currently carrying out thinning work for the National Trust at Ickworth, Suffolk. A 7ha site removing dead and dying ash trees. The timber will be used in the estate biomass system and also sold as firewood into the local market. 183

Aspect Forestry and Rural Management @aspectforest.bsky.social · 31/08/2026I recently carried out some bank side coppicing operations around a lake owned by a local client. Aspect Forestry and Rural Management @aspectforest.bsky.social · 23/08/2026It is an unusual site. It’s a lovely quiet corner of Suffolk which is thankfully off the beaten track. Aspect Forestry and Rural Management @aspectforest.bsky.social · 10/08/2026There has been an awful lot of commentary just lately about wildfires. Dunwich is in my local area. Some of it has an agenda, some is factually incorrect. I saw this information published by The Moorland Association this morning. This appears to be a balanced take on the situation. 110
Aspect Forestry and Rural Management @aspectforest.bsky.social · 07/08/2026The text says ash felling as a form of control. Ash dieback disease cannot be controlled through felling. The clear fell would have been to enable restock with alternative species and recoup economic value from the dying/decaying timber. 110
Aspect Forestry and Rural Management @aspectforest.bsky.social · 07/08/2026The condition of that extraction route doesn’t look great. Poor management at the time??? and poor reinstatement. 110

Aspect Forestry and Rural Management @aspectforest.bsky.social · 27/07/2026To reinforce what others have said on other platforms, there is nothing wrong in planting trees. They will survive drought on the same level as natural regen but correct planting and maintenance is key to the success e.g a mulching requirement. Budgets often ignore this fact to their detriment. 000
