Aspect Forestry and Rural Management @aspectforest.bsky.social · 08/10/2026The first frost of the season in Cambridgeshire this morning. 030
Aspect Forestry and Rural Management @aspectforest.bsky.social · 07/10/2026I wrapped up the thinning contract with NT Ickworth at the end of last week and moved the machines to the Cambs/Beds border. 1.5 hectares of overstood coppice to harvest on a SSSI site. I’ve worked in this particular wood for the best part of 20 years. 060
Aspect Forestry and Rural Management @aspectforest.bsky.social · 30/09/2026A lot has been said on social media today about new tree planting after the government announcement. Most of what has been said has been utter nonsense. I’m not engaging. I’ll keep my head down and carry on managing these multifunctional woodlands for the future. 030
Aspect Forestry and Rural Management @aspectforest.bsky.social · 28/09/2026How is this news? “A Tree species that is renowned for coppicing well has produced coppice regrowth” Well blow me down with a feather. Really BBC there are so much more important forestry and tree related items to report on. 040
Aspect Forestry and Rural Management @aspectforest.bsky.social · 25/09/2026It was a really enjoyable day spent at the the APF show yesterday. Caught up with a good number of friends old and new and discussed ideas for possible machinery changes. I was also rather proud to have a machine on display, my Kronos trailer. @Forestry_UK 060
Aspect Forestry and Rural Management @aspectforest.bsky.social · 22/09/2026I’ve spent the day at the Southill Estate in Bedfordshire with the RFS. What an interesting and thought provoking project. Landscape scale conservation management, reintroductions, beavers and forestry. Many thanks to Charles Whitbread and the team. 061
Aspect Forestry and Rural Management @aspectforest.bsky.social · 21/09/2026Well, the forwarder has had a bath and tidy up today as it’s off to the APF forestry show at Ragley Hall this week. It will be used as a demonstration machine on the Jas P Wilson stand. I’m going Thursday if anyone else is also there. 040
Aspect Forestry and Rural Management @aspectforest.bsky.social · 20/09/2026I had a diesel delivery this week as I do nearly every other week. Checked the paper work this morning…..1.28 litre! In July it was just over 70p. I’ve never paid as much for red diesel as this. It’s a huge problem but what do you do? 260
Aspect Forestry and Rural Management @aspectforest.bsky.social · 15/09/2026There is a tidal wave of negativity across social media at the moment so as an antidote here’s a picture of the machines on my current site. Harvesting timber and carrying out nature conservation work. #positiveforestry 061
Aspect Forestry and Rural Management @aspectforest.bsky.social · 07/09/2026As ever we are really busy at the moment. Currently carrying out thinning work for the National Trust at Ickworth, Suffolk. A 7ha site removing dead and dying ash trees. The timber will be used in the estate biomass system and also sold as firewood into the local market. 183
Aspect Forestry and Rural Management @aspectforest.bsky.social · 31/08/2026I recently carried out some bank side coppicing operations around a lake owned by a local client. The lake had become over enclosed so I opened it up to provide a mixture of tree growth stages around the site. The fishing looks good to! 010
Aspect Forestry and Rural Management @aspectforest.bsky.social · 11/08/2026Started my daily walk before sunrise this morning. I really enjoy the quiet, still coolness at that time of day. No one else about! Sadly found this tawny dead on the road. Still warm so it had not long happened. 050
Aspect Forestry and Rural Management @aspectforest.bsky.social · 02/08/2026I am currently selling a parcel of oak timber on behalf of my client. 41 lengths. Total volume 2057 hft. It is located near Walpole, Halesworth, Suffolk. If you are interesting in placing a bid on the timber please drop me a DM. 031
Aspect Forestry and Rural Management @aspectforest.bsky.social · 25/07/2026Thank you. Busy weekend here catching up on a contract. Felling oak ravaged with AOD and our friend Agrilus biguttatus 110
Aspect Forestry and Rural Management @aspectforest.bsky.social · 18/07/2026With another site wrapped up and a move back to a client nearer home, it’s nice to have the machines washed before starting on a fresh site. It’s also nice to see rapid regeneration of the site I felled in autumn 2026. Aspen filling the void left by the ash. 290
Aspect Forestry and Rural Management @aspectforest.bsky.social · 18/07/2026At my last site ran this old rabbit fence on top of the wood bank. One of the estate workers said that he remembered the fence being put when he was a lad in 1965. Some of the posts are completely sound! How many fences being put up today will still have sound posts in 2087!! 150
Aspect Forestry and Rural Management @aspectforest.bsky.social · 18/06/2026East Anglian Royal Forestry Society division meeting today at Weasenham today by kind invitation of the Coke family. Magnificent softwoods and mixed species, continuous cover forestry. A lunch of Muntjac pies (shot in the wood) were also provided. 031
Aspect Forestry and Rural Management @aspectforest.bsky.social · 16/06/2026I pride myself on the quality of our work and the condition of our sites post operations. Today I have returned to a timber loading bay to clean it down of bark and debris, remove safety signs and adjust the gates. All our contracts are managed until the last job is complete. 070
Aspect Forestry and Rural Management @aspectforest.bsky.social · 13/06/2026This caught my eye this morning on my walk. A teasel head, very common but it’s natural construction make it complex and visually striking. 040
Aspect Forestry and Rural Management @aspectforest.bsky.social · 10/06/2026My morning walk around some agri environment plots in Cambridgeshire this morning. What seemed like millions of oxide daisy’s and common blue butterflies. 030
Aspect Forestry and Rural Management @aspectforest.bsky.social · 04/06/2026I made a site visit today to a coppice compartment I felled a couple of years ago. The woodland floor was covered in common spotted orchids. Encouraged by the increase in light levels this shows the vital importance of woodland management to sustain positive, rich habitats. 0300
Aspect Forestry and Rural Management @aspectforest.bsky.social · 03/06/2026Yes, it certainly was. 010
Aspect Forestry and Rural Management @aspectforest.bsky.social · 02/06/2026Something a bit different today. In a woodland I thinned last year I have been grinding and mulching stumps on the line of a new circular woodland walk. This is a diversification project for my farming client. Without the stumps the paths can be managed with a standard mower. 260
Aspect Forestry and Rural Management @aspectforest.bsky.social · 02/06/2026Pyramidal orchids just coming into flower locally on my early morning walk. 051
Aspect Forestry and Rural Management @aspectforest.bsky.social · 31/05/2026We have lived in our house 15 years and we have never had a Bee Orchid come up in the front lawn. I don’t know of any local populations. So where has it come from? Glad it did though. 3100
Aspect Forestry and Rural Management @aspectforest.bsky.social · 26/05/2026I’ve just taken a wander down the lane to cool off, well sort of. 060
Aspect Forestry and Rural Management @aspectforest.bsky.social · 24/05/2026Terrible photograph. It just wouldn’t stay still long enough to take a good photograph. I am thinking speckled wood but the brown colouration seems too dark. Any thoughts anyone? 010
Aspect Forestry and Rural Management @aspectforest.bsky.social · 23/05/2026Our site in the Norfolk Brecks was wrapped up at the end of last week. 270 tons of brash resulting from 9ha of thinning at the end of the winter, was chipped and collected by A.W. Jenkinsons. 150
Aspect Forestry and Rural Management @aspectforest.bsky.social · 21/05/2026Stunning morning again. 020
Aspect Forestry and Rural Management @aspectforest.bsky.social · 15/05/2026A grass hopper warbler at Redgrave and Lopham Fen early this morning. 🔉 050
Aspect Forestry and Rural Management @aspectforest.bsky.social · 13/05/2026Just a moment in May on a quiet Norfolk lane this morning. The sun was just filtering through after a heavy rain shower had passed through. 030
Aspect Forestry and Rural Management @aspectforest.bsky.social · 12/05/2026In the style of the Fast Show…. This week I’ve mainly been extracting brash. This was originally felled at the back end of the winter and will be chipped next week. It is used for a number of products including peat free compost and biofuel. 171
Aspect Forestry and Rural Management @aspectforest.bsky.social · 12/05/2026The harvester is also back in action. Its been away having all new running gear fitted. It’s quiet and smooth now - lovely! 040
Aspect Forestry and Rural Management @aspectforest.bsky.social · 08/05/2026We are having some beautiful sunrises at the moment in the east. On this mornings walk. 030
Aspect Forestry and Rural Management @aspectforest.bsky.social · 06/05/2026www.bbc.co.uk/news/article... 110
Aspect Forestry and Rural Management @aspectforest.bsky.social · 06/05/2026It made the BBC, both the local radio and the news website carried reports. These we’re heavily biased towards the protesters and contained information that wasn’t correct, 210
Aspect Forestry and Rural Management @aspectforest.bsky.social · 05/05/2026A lovely misty sunrise over the river Waveney this morning. 040
Aspect Forestry and Rural Management @aspectforest.bsky.social · 01/05/2026My conclusion is that….there are many problems in the countryside BUT with the right people, some government agri environment support and a “can do” attitude many positive things are being done in our countryside to support wildlife, produce food and grow timber. 150
Aspect Forestry and Rural Management @aspectforest.bsky.social · 01/05/2026The farm also has some areas of woodland ( hence I’m there ). They are very keen that the woodlands are managed to provide good habitat, game cover and a timber crop. 110
Aspect Forestry and Rural Management @aspectforest.bsky.social · 01/05/2026What struck me on my 1 hour walk was how much wildlife I saw in that relatively short spell, just on one farm. A huge number of birds species were present including cuckoo, reed warbler, reed bunting, black cap, song thrush, green and GS woodpecker. 140
Aspect Forestry and Rural Management @aspectforest.bsky.social · 01/05/2026I walked the route this morning before work, on footpaths that circumnavigated my current clients farm. This is a largely arable farm growing combinable crops, sugar beet, potatoes, carrots and onions. The farm is managed with conservation and food production at the forefront. 100
Aspect Forestry and Rural Management @aspectforest.bsky.social · 01/05/2026I’ve had a bit of a health issue recently which means I’ve got to lose a bit of weight! So,as it was May 1st I’ve decided to do a personal walking challenge. At least 5k each day of the month - similar to what I’ve done previously as part of another group. THREAD 🧵 150
Aspect Forestry and Rural Management @aspectforest.bsky.social · 25/04/2026With all the work wrapped up on this site now until next winter I’ll leave the bluebells and nightingales to enjoy spring in peace. 2122
Aspect Forestry and Rural Management @aspectforest.bsky.social · 25/04/20262/2 The thinning operations will encourage the better trees to develop and let some much needed light to the woodland floor. The work has also produced a significant revenue for the landowner, which will allow further management work to take place in this ancient woodland. 1101
Aspect Forestry and Rural Management @aspectforest.bsky.social · 25/04/2026I finally wrapped up a site on Friday that was started just before Christmas. Delayed at first by the wet weather, a dry April has allowed the forwarding of the timber in perfect conditions. Approximately 1200 tonnes of produce was harvested. 1/2 1101
