This is the size of things:

They were always eventually going to defy the Supreme Court on something. They were always going to have an explanation for why they aren't actually defying the Supreme Court. This part - this day - was always coming.
The lingering question was: what happens then? The administration has already ignored lower federal courts. Now the Supreme Court. And if nothing happens? Then the courts have no power, and law is simply Whatever The Leader Decrees.
That isn't hyperbole - that's just how it will be. A court ruling that agrees with the administration? "They got it right!" A court ruling that disagrees with the administration? "They got it wrong, and therefore their ruling is invalid."
Now give a quick thought to, oh for example, how the courts would uphold election results in that environment. The answer? They could not.
In other words, this moment is NOT about an immigration issue. It is not about foreign policy. This moment is about the end of our representative democracy.
The thing is, when you say these things, the other side will point out how hysterical you sound. And I do sound hysterical! Because that's how terrifying this moment is (kind of wild to have your reaction to a terrifying moment be used as proof that the moment isn't actually terrifying ... ). I'll take no satisfaction in being proven right over the course of the next five years, just as I take no satisfaction in being proven right every step along the way so far. Huffing and waiting for "I told you so" accomplishes nothing. By then, it's too late anyway.

The Trump administration is, by its words, its deeds, and by the people who comprise it, a white supremacist regime and it fully hopes and intends to usher in a new segregationist era. In order to do that it must, by its own bigoted logic, deny and erase the accomplishments of anyone who isn't white, who isn't male, who isn't Christian, who isn't straight, and who isn't gender-conforming. It has now done so with Jackie Robinson, a civil rights pioneer and, in my view and the view of many others, the most significant figure in baseball history.

At what point does someone in a position to stop this do something? Where is the bottom? And if there is no bottom, how much farther will we fall before those of us without the power to stop it take action of our own?
