⛰️Shortfall in required & other beneficial actions ⛅But can be hopeful: we know effective ways to conserve species 🦮This can guide more effective action plans & hopefully better outcomes. 📄Part of @britishecologicalsociety.org special issue 20 Years of Evidence-Based Conservation 🧵3/3

*Key findings* ✅Supporting evidence exists for most broad action types 🌳Area protection most implemented; it & area management are most needed 🧑‍⚖️Fewer tests of enabling actions (law, policy, awareness); require alternative approaches ➕We identified potential additional beneficial actions 🧵2/3

*Positive news* Despite global declines in biodiversity, we find conservation has driven improvements in >100 species. This suggests with greater resource allocation to more species, conservation can halt and reverse biodiversity loss! First PhD paper: doi.org/10.1371/jour...

20 yrs ago I started comparing the 3 lists of threatened birds BirdLife had published and working out overall trends. The Red List Index resulted from the ensuing collaboration & is now used by the world's governments & UN. Our new paper reviews the history royalsocietypublishing.org/doi/10.1098/...
