Again won't be reported in Western media I have no doubt. But the IRGC just threatened merchant shipping once again, and it is not an idle threat. They have already attacked 14 vessels in the last week, and the most recent attack led to 12 seafarers requiring medical evacuation. #TheHormuzCrisis

Additional to this - Al Jazeera and Indian media are now reporting this as an attack that caused serious injuries. 12 of the 17 crew reported as being injured in an attack, which correlates with this one but may be another unreported attack.

Another incident in the Strait of Hormuz, the 14th such attack in the last week. It is a late report, so may have happened any time int he last 24 hours, but another tanker struck, and more violence against seafarers that is going unreported by most media channels.

Ummm - no it really is the war on Iran that you started, had no concept of what it meant and still lie about daily. Just because throughput is up, that does not account for the increased costs in insurance and operations. Let alone the dozens of innocent sailor's lives lost from missiles.

This is the fourth incident today, and the 13th incident in a week. A fire is currently burning in the engine room of this vessel, which for anyone that has never served on a ship, is terrifying and life-threatening. This is escalation of violence toward merchant sailors and still isn't reported!

The UKMTO has just put out three more warnings of attacks on ships in the Strait of Hormuz over the last 24 to 36 hours. Two Crude carriers and an LPG tanker all hit in the Strait with cause unknown. This takes the number of incidents just in this last week to 10, and that is the ones reported.

As an example of my argument this morning, a tanker has turned back after being hailed by IRGC forces and threatened in the Strait of Hormuz. This show that coercion is still being used, not just attacks and that the risks of transit are still in place, making the costs more expensive.

Ash Oro @ashoro.co.uk · 05/10/2026
The physical risk is once again rising. Reports overnight include another tanker strike in Hormuz and explosions reported south of Bab al-Mandeb. That follows the recent cluster of attacks just as traffic was beginning to rebuild.

Ash Oro @ashoro.co.uk · 05/10/2026
Firstly he good news is genuine, but limited. Producers have rebuilt some crude flow using guarded transits, coastal routes, ship-to-ship transfers and pipelines. Adaptation is working well enough to put more barrels into the market.

UKMTO just put up two alerts. A tanker has been attacked in Hormuz and another vessel in the Bab al’Mandeb reports explosions in the water nearby as it transited. This is further escalation after 5 days of near continuous attacks on merchant shipping. #TheHormuzCrisis #MerchantShipSafety

Another attack overnight on a tanker in the Strait of Hormuz. This is the 6th attack this week, and still getting almost no coverage!! The human price for transiting the Strait seems to be being priced into business costs.

Now confirmed by the UKMTO as a separate incident, another tanker has been struck in the Strait of Hormuz. This is the 5th attack in 4 days on shipping in the Strait and a clear escalation of violence.

The USA is responding to this wider picture, not simply one tanker incident. Trump has rejected Iran’s proposal as inadequate and has left open renewed bombing after the election. The Theodore Roosevelt carrier group and Makin Island amphibious group are moving toward the region.
171
Ash Oro @ashoro.co.uk · 02/10/2026
Then there is the broader escalation. The Saudi-led coalition says a Houthi drone damaged a power-distribution station in Medina supplying the Prophet’s Mosque. The Houthis deny responsibility. The wider grid was not disrupted.

Ash Oro @ashoro.co.uk · 02/10/2026
Also, four merchant vessels have reportedly been attacked in Hormuz across a matter of days. The public attribution and full details remain incomplete, but the pattern is what matters. A route cannot be treated as commercially secure when repeated attacks are part of the operating picture.
151
Ash Oro @ashoro.co.uk · 02/10/2026
Hormuz has already shown us the commercial version of this. See The Guardian headline and by-line tell different stories. Largely return to pre-war levels, but needing to be clarified that is by "alternative ways". That alternative is the workaround some are finding to normalise the situation.
160
Ash Oro @ashoro.co.uk · 02/10/2026
What we are seeing now is not a return to that system. It is a replacement for it. France has confirmed that one of its warships escorted around ten merchant vessels through Bab al-Mandab in the past week, under the EU’s ASPIDES mission. That is a significant development.

There is an awful lot happening in #TheHormuzCrisis at the moment. I am currently reading, processing and trying to understand what we are seeing. I should have a full run down tomorrow, but by then it could all be out of date with how fast events are moving.

Tonight’s dinner - my increasingly desperate attempts to get the kids to try other foods. Borrowed my Mum’s hot-plate and cooked up prawns, duck, buffalo burgers and lots of green veggies. Went down ok - some things tried at least.

It is too early to speculate on this. But I will keep watch in case more reports come in.

Ash Oro @ashoro.co.uk · 30/09/2026
Well that makes it all a bit clearer. Iran finally admit they are targeting merchant sailors in the Strait of Hormuz to prove the USA has no control of it. So seafarers are expendable pawns to them? I keep saying they are a brutal regime. But there needs to be an end other than war.

Ash Oro @ashoro.co.uk · 30/09/2026
Three separate incidents all being reported by UKMTO - which all occurred sometime int he last 24 hours. A tanker, a crude oil tanker and an LNG tanker all reported hit in the Strait of Hormuz! This is the greatest number of attacks in 24 hours in months and may derail all talks happening.

In a follow-up to this morning - The USA has present Iran with it's plan. So we should have some answers shortly about how this is all likely to play out. #TheHormuzCrisis

Ash Oro @ashoro.co.uk · 30/09/2026
This is what we saw in part yesterday. The USA has not paused economic pressure while negotiations continue. The Treasury imposed another round of measures under Operation Economic Outcast and says enforcement against Iranian financial and procurement networks will continue.

Ash Oro @ashoro.co.uk · 29/09/2026
Late alert from the UKMTO. At some point overnight a vessel was struck in the Strait of Hormuz, causing a fire. This was extinguished by the crew and the vessel is still underway. This comes on the eve of the supposed decision by #Trump to end or escalate #TheHormuzCrisis.-
173
Ash Oro @ashoro.co.uk · 28/09/2026
Well who would have guessed it? Not only is #Trump a leading world expert on #TheHormuzCrisis and it's effects on global trade, he is also an expert on UK law and process. Despite not even knowing how the laws and constitution of the USA work. The man is a stone-cold genius.

I really hate to disappoint you. But all they are doing is shifting to “Only people that look the part can be British…”
161
Ash Oro @ashoro.co.uk · 28/09/2026
So this is the UK in 2026? Actively wishing desperate poor people to die, and not hiding it. Putting it all out in public for people to see... How do we even come back from this? How do we deradicalise and deprogram a proportion of an entire population to return their humanity and empathy?

I think what I find most galling about #Trump and #TheHormuzCrisis is the way he is so casual about wanting to kill people. Iran has a brutal government and dangerous regime. But this sociopath is willing to destroy lives to satisfy nothing but his own ego.

After a week of diplomacy at the UNGA, the Iranians have submitted a plan to reopen the Strait of Hormuz. It follows the same lines of the July MoU (if you remember that). The USA diplomats say the door is open for talks. Meanwhile. Trump…

#TheHormuzCrisis Update Hard to test the truth of the statement when the vessels were not using AIS so we just have to trust the USA on these figures. What isn't disputable is that one seafarer died and another is still listed as a casualty after being hit while transiting.

Why have we reached a stage where people call in to @natashadevon.bsky.social and say they want people to drown? Well headlines like this don’t help. Let’s forget that numbers are way down on years previous and just keep stoking fear and division. This is why the RNLI is under attack.

Do you know if it is criminal damage under Section 11 of the Aviation and Maritime Security Act? Because if so - the penalty is pretty high if convicted and given a maximum sentence...

I appreciate this is quite niche - but the requirements are incredibly prescriptive, and come from the IMO not Flag States. So getting around them isn't really possible without essentially abandoning the vessel, or putting the rest of the crew at risk by reducing the emergency capabilities.
120
Ash Oro @ashoro.co.uk · 24/09/2026
So it is illegal to just send them home without someone to take over. This leaves a catch 22. Who wants to go to a warzone to sit on a ship that might get blown up? There have been reports of companies offering triple wages to do so, but no evidence of people taking them up on it.
120
Ash Oro @ashoro.co.uk · 24/09/2026
That will all depend on the vessel and who is crewing it. The last time the media or the IMO fully reported on this was in August. The problem is getting someone to take over - the ships are at minimum manning levels due to cost saving practices industry wide.

It may have seemed quiet due to Western media focusing on other areas, but the Houthi / Saudi war in Yemen is still raging. This was in the last hour. Missiles headed for Saudi Arabia intercepted. The Bab al'Mandeb Strait is still closed to Saudi-aligned traffic and controlled by the Houthis.

It looks like the UNGA side meetings did little to stabilise the oil price index. I think that the remarks from both Presidents in #TheHormuzCrisis have set the tone too agressive. With all that is going on, it is something to watch. Because this reflects the dangers of transiting right now...

Not yet being reported by the UKMTO - but an Indian crew member was killed (reported as one of two casualties). Still no word on the second casualty mentioned. The Indian Embassy in Oman made a statement a short time ago confirming. This is officially the 23rd seafarer killed since February...

Thank you. I think it comes down to these three points. Criminal damage that endangers life at sea - assuming that the UK has jurisdiction. But I am no lawyer or prosecutor, so whether the criminal threshold has been met would be a big part of this.
